dude this comic is so much darker than the last ones like seriously Surge is merciless as hell with the Wisps and I love the character continuity of Whisper being willing to kill when she is on her last legs both times she almost kills someone is when she loses someone very near to her first with Tangle and this time with her Wisps it's amazing these comics really CAN be brutal huh? I love it so much

I have two theories on what the Starline hallucination is. I think the Starline hallucination is a manifestation of her own self loathing. Notice how the only thing hallucination Starline does is shit talk her, and distract her from what shes currently doing. My other theory is that H. Starline is who she used to bubbling to the surface, and expressing her distaste for current Surge.

I feel like when Surge and Kit reunite Surge will reject him after finding out he came there to help sonic, even if he switches sides(again) and trys to help Surge in the fight she might cast him aside since she's all powered up and might not need his strength anymore PLUS she clearly isn't mentally ok and might attack him regardless.

I feel that the reason Starline is the thing that's prominent on her hallucinations is because of the kind of impression he left on her and that due to here gaining a small resistance to his hypno-glove she has residual memories of the pressure and torture he put her through which built subconscious negative attachment and buried PTSD. And the Dynamo Cage is bringing it up to the surface.

This is by far my favorite issue of this arc. Happy they’re still using Starline in a unique way despite(as of now) isn’t physically in the picture as a mental battle with Surge as she keeps getting unhinged the more she powers up with the Dynamo Cage also applause to the artist in the issue my god it goes hard in some scenes! Whisper attempting to attack Surge in THAT way is pretty hardcore for Sonic I like that they’re getting more bold in these action scenes while I heavily doubt it would have done anything to her given her abilities but damn Whisper going through trauma again…. Yeah they ain’t killing the main series villain interesting Metal Sonic wasn’t there yet probably something with him later looking forward to that! Kit is interesting especially next issue it can go MANY ways either he rejoins Surge and hate Sonic and crew thinking he was lying to manipulate him or he’s going to fight her if he really change alliances due to being very unstable atm but man this arc is getting there to Metal Virus levels of great!

This story had me shaking while i was reading it! I knew the badness was gonna come for Whisper. The moment when Whisper tried to kill Surge with that glass shard is pretty intense for a comic aimed towards kids. Also, Surge’s sinister face is nightmare fuel. Great story though. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Whisper is one of my favorites and she really can't catch a break. A conga line of traumatic things and who knows where all of this will go, maybe she and Tangle will team up and fight Surge or Surge will team up with Mimic. I really want the wolf girl to have one streak of issues where she isn't in so much pain or trouble. That panel with her crying, baring her fangs, wanting the wisps back is both amazing and heartbreaking.

Nah, Surge has had it with working with scuzzy, mid-prime adults; Mimic's arguably more evil and twisted than Starline even! I mean, he wasn't placed one point above Starline on the threat level scale for nothing. The guy is like raw condensed selfishness. He's stereotypical Neutral Evil mercenary: cold-hearted, switching allegiance as he sees fit and regretting nothing. His only outstanding quality is that he's more of a filthy coward than most of those types; he's clearly more concerned with safety than pay and will gladly throw others under the bus to get it.

@@videogollumer That's definitely true. I forgot that Surge isn't just fed up with Sonic and Eggman, she'd go after anyone and everything. Though I would laugh if Mimic thought about turning into Starline for a minute and immediately changed his mind when Surge tries to waste him.

I'm so impressed how they managed to keep Starline, without actually making it Starline. It's such an ingenious and thematic way of Surge desiring power, but for it to be tied directly to her trauma. She's doing all this to lash out, here entire personality is based on getting revenge on the world, even though it's just Starline's fault. Now she's chosen to be stuck with him, in the pursuit of power since the Dynamo cage is the link between her power and trauma. Also, perhaps the reason the Starline hallucination is questioning why she's imagining him is because they did meet before she was brainwashed. Surge stated before that it's a possibility she could have volunteered to be a test subject. I doubt Starline would be so open with his plans, but Surge did have a life before Starline interfered so who maybe that's a hint. Also, damn it writers, leave our poor wolf girl alone! 53 issues and whisper has been pushed over the edge 3 separate times. Tangle is going to have to soothe her again, goddamn...

I think it should be mentioned that her Prototype Wispon is broken. It got destroyed. Other than the Wisp themselves all she had to remember her team was that mask and that gun. Makes me curious though. Going with Whispers recent losing streak, will she get an upgraded Wispon. Where it's no longer a prototype but the complete and finalized thing. Kinda an upgrade that allows her to keep being a distance fighter but possibly boost her melee skills and may possibly allow her to use more different Wisp than the ones she has now. But hey. They might just rebuild the old gun. Which don't get me wrong I love it! But I'm not a fan of the design.

Something about this comic was so dark and eerie...I get some really intense premonitions from this chapter going into the next. With that being said this honestly has been my favorite issue as I've caught up with the IDW Series. Refreshing to see the tone shift to something a bit more dark. After all this is SEGA and the comics I'm sure intended audience are primarily children. Either way I am scared but also in LOVE with how ruthless Surge is as a villain. She's completely unhinged! Poor Whisper and Kit too...these character arcs and narratives are so compelling! Easily my favorite issue so far in the IDW series like I said! Great job on the dramatic reading too Wolfie, keep doing your thing bruh!

My thoughts- This will lead to a death march with Surge and Kit plowing through Sonic’s friends as there is no way Sonic would actually be able to handle Surge right now- Until eventually, she goes up against shadow, they have similar origin and if anyone can get through to Surge, it would definitely be shadow

Okay...this comic was INSANE!! Seeing my favourite platypus Starline again made me SO happy and knowing I'd get to hear your voice for him again made it better! Surge hallucinating him is super dark but it's honestly so cool. It only gets darker and more frequent in upcoming issues. #Wolfie4Starline Surge vs Whisper is something I never thought I needed but I'm glad I had and holy shit was it good!! Poor Whisper has lost so much and NOW she's lost both her wisps AND wispon! She went so far as to STAB Surge to get her wisps back and that's super dark but honestly incredible. I can't tell if she was stabbed or not but if she did HOLY SHIT that would have have cool!!! I wonder how Tangle will react to hearing what Surge did to Whisper... Seeing Whisper cry made me SO sad. Poor girl :( Poor Kit... I wanna hug him so badly. Seeing him cuddled in the blanket broke me. I can't wait to see how he reacts to seeing Surge alive and well. Amazing review as always! The art in this comic is PHENOMENAL! 9.8/10 comic for me!

I don't think Surge got hit by the shard. If she was hit, it doesn't really make sense for Whisper to keep attacking (since she doesn't know about the regeneration), while Surge immediately dodges every other hit. Also, when Whisper gets hit with Cube, she drops the shard and it's clean. I'm not expecting there to be blood in these comics, but if there was an implication she got hit, they'd probably show _some_ change on the shard since it was right there

It's definitely gonna be interesting to see what Kit does when he realises Surge is alive. It's also pretty confronting to me that Kit is so easily able to latch onto Sonic once he thinks Surge is gone, even though he knows Surge absolutely hates Sonic. I guess it shows that Kit doesn't care about 'who' he follows as long as he's following 'someone', which is pretty sad to think about. Also Wolfie I also thought Surge might've actually got stabbed, especially since phantom Starline called her sloppy after it. And speaking of Starline I think that the way he's been 'brought back' is a very interesting take and I think it works very well. I hope that it is able to satisfy both the fans who want Starline to stay dead, and the fans who want Starline back.

Think about how hallucinating someone who brainwashed you to do a task. Technically if you haven’t completed that task and your doubting your own free will even with the absence of that person . She was programmed to hunt down sonic but now she has the Will to disobey that order, to look for her real family or friends but instead it’s been so ingrained into her that she continues to do it, thus doubting if it’s even something she wants to do.

This was an epic story. One thing that I think would be an interesting idea for two characters together in a future story: Whisper and Shadow. I think it would be a cool idea since Whispers gone through a lot and considering Shadows dark backstory, it would remind Shadow a little bit about himself in the past and it could bring back bad memories for him. I hope it could happen since Shadow’s softened up a little bit from last time we saw him in issue 36.

Good point. Where is Shadow anyway? With the robots gathering at Eggmans base and all the commotion in the city, you will think that GUN should bring their best agent to investigate. We haven't seen him for so long. It will be interesting to see a fight between him and a full power up Surge. And yes his interaction with Whisper will be intense given her background.

Kit and Surge will be one of the more interesting parts of the comic. Their backstory not being explained is also great since it leaves it up to the imagination. Fans can come up with as many theories as they want.

Once again IDW writers get scarily real by showing how long lasting consequences of abuse can still linger and remain even after the death of the abuser themselves. And despite being destructive and unhealthy, the way both Surge and Kit deal with it feels pretty real too. Ugh this was hard to read.

Ain’t gonna lie, if Kit chooses to go back with Surge I would be mad 😂 but I know it would be “justified” if he does (because, you know, his programming). But I honestly beg for Kit to stay with Sonic and crew because, let's face it, in the state Surge is in it wouldn't surprising if she threatens Kit with something like “I swear I’ll wipe my shoes on your grave if you ever dare to come back” the moment Surge finds out he’s been assisting Sonic (even if temporary)

Oh my God, that panel of Kit wrapped up in the blanket...dude, that's heartbreaking! 😢😢😢 Edit: Also, I think Surge hallucinating that Starline was there, insulting her and acting so condescendingly to her, was some sort of allegory for her conscience. Maybe deep down, there's a small part of Surge that believes what she's doing is wrong, so now with the neurons in her brain firing at max capacity, her mind has created a physical manifestation of her conscience in the form of Starline to try and get her to stop. That's my theory, anyway

And he believes they passed away during their escape from Eggman's Base... Though the Blue Blur may have spoken too soon because suddenly in Central City Surge The Tenrec has Popped back up with a Device of Dr. Eggman's she stole that she's using to wreak havoc! Whisper the Wolf's attempts at neutralizing Surge's rampage however only make it worse as Surge takes Whisper's Wisps and now has almost all of their powers! Enhancing her threat level even further!!! Not understanding what's going on and knowing Sonic is in trouble Kitsunami decides to go towards whatever is happening in Central City! Determined that he wont lose another friend!!!

Honestly, I'd actually consider Whisper in the wrong if she, somehow, managed to kill Surge. They're both teenage girls who have been abused by evil adults and are still suffering because of it. Neither knows that, but still; teenage girls trying to kill each other is one thing any society needs less of. Whisper can get her Wisps back; but she can't unkill Surge if she, somehow, succeeded. If the heroes can find away to stop Surge from destroying the world without killing her or letting her kill herself, they'd do well to take it. They don't have the right to end the life of even an evil fellow juvenile, especially if they are not willing to end the life of a an utterly heartless evil adult, unless the alternative means the end of their world.
