Wolfpack - have you ever heard of the USS Marblehead ? One of the survivors of the original Dutch East Indies conflict ! She took a pasting but despite having been reported sunk several times. She made it out of that part of the world. Despite some horrendously devastating damage. She stopped off three times in Ceylon, South Africa and in port in Java - she got home to New York and then spent two years from October of 1942 in the North Atlantic. Check your inventory for Cruisers. You may find that she and her sister cruiser is available to you. Marblehead finished her war as a training ship running up to November 1945 - when she was retired. And finally scrapped in 1946. Around the same time as HMS Warspite was also scrapped. It may give you a couple more cruisers to use in a further battlegroup.

You should retake _Makassar,_ on the Southwest tip of Celebes. This will secure your flank, and prevent further air attacks on your supply convoys and warships. Also, O19 can fire to the side! You don't have to do a 180° turn to fire a second volley. These tubes cannot be reloaded underway. But it gives you a good single volley. Just a suggestion! I'm enjoying the series. Stay on them! Good Hunting.

Honestly if I was them at this point in the game no matter how tough I am I would be scared shitless of going into the Java sea, I mean that place is a goddamn meat grinder, they have lost dozens of ships And tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of men. The Java sea campaign would be the equivalent of the Eastern front, it would be the absolute worst place you could possibly be sent to fight in.

A movie was made about SS Ohio because it was the tanker in Operation Pedestal. It's captain received the George Cross for that action as it was attacked by 100+ Ju88s and other aircraft, torpedoed by a sub after U87 sunk Eagle - its aircraft carrier escort then it was incessantly attacked all the way up the Med including by a Stuka that crashed into its side after a Ju88 managed to "land" on it's bow. They had to abandon ship twice, were towed, took multiple bomb hits that broke its Ohio's back requiring two destroyers, Penn and Ledbury had to act as its rudder. When it arrived it broke in two and sinking in its berth when it's cargo was off loaded.

Time to buy more submarines! I think the mogami was dead from the first torpedo strike personally, i would have saved the stern torps for a attack on something else. I can't help but feel the Nagara would have sunk eventually from the fires if you'd stuck around a bit longer.

WP: I saw something interesting the other day - A search plane came upon a single ship in a convoy - so the gamer went to the "Report" log and low and behold it listed all the ships with their number instead of the one ship. Maybe faster than tagging the one ship and then looking around it to find the rest of the ships in the TF>

May I suggest taking one or more ports on the Celebes? it could act as a decent staging base for troops and supply moving from Australia to places like Batavia and Palembang, plus it's close enough to you and far enough from the Japanese positions to make it easier to resupply and defend

with this bad experience with the tanker Ohio you should merge either the light cruiser Tromp or Sumatra (preerably the latter) in your tanker convoy to increase protection and armament.

Love the Dutch cruisers, sometimes its hard to work with them as they lack modern equipment like radar but IMHO they are a force to be reckoned with especially in Southeast Asia, since their design and construction was almost solely based upon protecting the Crown Jevel of Netherlands, aka Dutch East Indies.

It's always good to see more of this campaign. I wonder at the reasoning behind no Campaign Points for sinking a destroyer? It doesn't make sense to me. Game mechanics aside, loving all the downloads (uploads?). Glad the Dutch sub hasn't any US Mk 14 torpedoes, imagine firing 'point blank' at a ship and getting one dud after another, put in danger to do it, then turn about and miss the next target? I am happy to be comfortable and brave in front of my computer, if I was a skipper 'in the day' I might have been considering mutiny, if you send us into harms way then give us the weapons we need. I've said it before, Wolfie, you deserve many more subscribers, I hate all the KZbin ads but I certainly don't hate that you might get a small monetary return, well deserved. Pax matey.

I was thinking the same thing. At an angle approaching 90 degrees to the bow, one could legitimately expect all of those torpedoes to have been duds had they been mark 14's. Historically, that encounter in February 1942 was between the Mogami and the USS Searaven. Searaven fired four torpedoes and all of them missed. History tells us that Mogami was scuttled at Surigao Strait in 1944, but we know that the truth is that Wolfpack sunk her in a Dutch submarine in 1942.

Once USS Houston and HMS Exeter are finally back in the fight, they should regroup with Task Force 24 thereby creating a truly powerful cruiser force, Java should linkup with Perth and task force Basalisk, after that there lie two powerful surface groups in the Java Sea.

He's said he doesn't use submarines specifically for this reason. They're extremely OP, as the AI basically can't fight them. I'm pretty sure he's only using O-19 because it was a new kind introduced in the mod and he might have gotten it for free

@@apertureemployee215 AI can fight them, if you dont leave combat immediately, they can find and sink your submarine, in fact when your submarine gets detected she is already dead. The problem is that your submarine is able to leave combat even when DDs know exactly where she is or they are already dropping charges at her. Also they dont care about your submarines until you hit something... Which is not true for AIs submarines tho, they can be detected even before launching torpedoes and they cant leave combat. Submarine mechanics need to change because submarines in players hand are incredibly OP but in AIs hands they are usually useless. And after devs added torpedoes to map they became even more useless... Thats why I play without them.

Hmm, they're slowly squeezing you out due to their large numerical advantage. I suppose that shortening the front and persistent defense of Batavia is the way to go, until you've bled them enough to gain an advantage. That is if they won't stomp you with their CV and a concentrated battlefleet first.

I think maybe getting more submarine to help with your patrol at Indian ocean (for night time as well as you can't launch planes at night) but surface hitter is more priority as the Japanese carrier group seems "disappear" and your recon didn't spotted them as well.

It is always fun to watch. Honnestly I agree with you in reinforcing Java. Once Java is retaken, I would go for the on the island northwest of Java. An attack on Celebres is an option to secure southeast. However, a base on Northwest would be necessary to cover northeast flank for the attack on Jakarta. But I am sure of one thing, you need to divert AI attention because it seems to be on an offensive mood. :)

I tried using the Surcouf, the guns dont shoot properly. You have to manually aim each and every shot. And the torpedoes are shit. You have to get to suicide range in such a large ship, and with the periscope being so fucking tall, you get detected instantly

I reccomend it. I initially thought it was a bit dull when I started but thats because I did not understand the point system for getting new ships and by sending ships to port for repairs means you don't lose ships easily. Once I saw this series I thought I would give it another crack. Glad I did because its alot of fun.

Get the three more capable Dutch and RN Subs up towards Singapore and Palembang and start hit and run operations to tackle the bigger fleet resources close by. Two subs a time and patrolling for one week. In duration. The two other subs can patrol near Java's Northern coasts - supplemented by surface forces and protecting convoys running from the biggest base you have at Java's midpoint. To the other bases on that chain of Islands of that land. Your air protecting policy is a good one and because of that in part. You are doing a lot better than the original strategists of that campaign. One other is doing better than you. The other, I believe slightly worst. Stretching himself too thin - I believe! Darthvegan, I think is having a few difficulties. And his supply chain is under strain. J76ny - I think is following your strategies more closely! And has hung on to Palembang. Despite having problems with Winston - his dog and Young Admiral Noah! Nonetheless, he's possibly closest to success with the Dutch East Indies. Between you and Darthvegan, it's a little bit closer but you're edging it - just about. But it is a little bit precarious having lost both Palembang and Singapore. But I do have a feeling that you will move on Palembang in the next week or so!

Well the Japanese had some success but their invasion is being repelled on Java. Those troops are pretty much dead. And to pull off that victory they lost 2 ships that will be difficult to replace. Plus they failed to take out a fleet oiler ( the Ohio) and to make things worse Wolfpack will have his heavy hitters coming back online soon. I would suggest getting a pair of submarines off the location recently captured as an attempt to starve out the Japanese forces occupying it right now. Also every ship you sink is one less ship to ferry supplies and troops for the IJN
