"alcohol was ruled out therefore speed caused the crash." lets not talk about the fact that an 18 year old crammed 6 people in a 4 seater ute and was probably driving distracted on a straight stretch of road which could probably be safely traveled at pretty much any speed. While australia has this attitude the root cause of these problems will never be adressed.

@KingProne Could I honestly say - as a flattered and impressionable fifteen year old - that I wouldn't join the gang in the adult male's ute? You want to go where the fun is as teen. Have experiences with your mates. But yes, the recipe, as the assistant police commissioner said. Inexperience + 8pm dark roads + speed, vehicle not under driver's full control + maybe loud music + 5 excitable teenage voices, all laughing and shouting over each other. Assessment of risk at this age is a long way off fully developed. Forever Young now.

The solution is so simple. Impose a nighttime tax, young driver tax, ute driver tax, speed tax and death tax. @@lindsayburrows9272 Explain to me how taxes fix problems? The government is MEANT to use tax revenue to solve problems, but it has been dismal at what it does, so much do that it has created more problems than it solves. Besides, the problem in this particular matter isn't reckless driving per se, it is reckless attitude in general. It is mainly up to the parents to teach their children to be responsible in general. People who ignore speed limits and road rules do so, because they are reckless in general, and don't care to follow rules that are meant to keep everyone safe. If solving problems is as simple as imposing taxes for a problematic behavior, it would have been done already by some nation, and we should be able to see a successful example of it. Besides, there already is a form of tax for reckless driving, just not paid to the government. Anyone who drives recklessly is 'taxed' in the form of increased risk of severe injury and death. This this case, those five youths paid with their lives. The driver who survived will likely have to pay with some prison time, and he will have to live with the fact that he killed five of his friends. If people still drive recklessly knowing that they might end up paying with their lives, they aren't going to be fazed by being taxed. I was taught that out of everyone who died due to reckless driving, no one thought they were going to crash and die that day. So if I were to speed thinking that I won't die, well, I am not any different from those who actually crashed and died, which means I might just end up paying with my life as well.

Basically what I am saying is that Governments dont have anyone other than themselves in their best interest. Believe me, I am not a humorless SOB, so when speaking in person, I can tell by the tone, the gesture and the facial expressions because they all add more meaning to what is being communicated, but through written texts alone I feel like there is a significant loss in the quality of communication. This is why in my day to day life with people I know, I prefer phone calls over text messages, and face to face discussions over phone calls whenever feasible. People these days seem to prefer to communicate with written texts (via text messages or Facebook messages) for its convenience, but not many people know about the loss in quality of communication. I learned the hard way, because whenever I wrote something witty or dry, it always ended up being misunderstood, and I got into a lot of trouble haha. @@williamcozbie1233 I think its a bit of cosmic irony. Whether you believe in such superstitions or not. You kill all of your friends and scar their families for the rest of their lives. Only for you to be equally damaged mentally in a different way. Basically a sickening form of payback that no one will ask questions about because Deep Down we all know they deserve what they feel in the aftermath. Whether we can admit it or not.

There are 4 seat belts plus a lap belt, sadly regardless of whether your wearing one or not the car was ripped apart and no seat belt would save you, in fact they cause horrific chest, lung and neck injuries at high speed crashes ...it seems none of them wore one no room and too many people in the cab hence being ejected from the vehicle...a tragic event so easily avoided if only 1 person spoke up and didn't bow to peer pressure surely someone new this was wrong sadly we'll never ever know...nor will there loved ones

@@Aprilsraven629 It's not that actually, regardless of seatbelts you're still going to hit the roof several times when they car rolls at those speeds. They would have had brain hemorrhaging and spinal injuries that led to death regardless if the car ripped apart or not. In fact the rolling would've broken their necks at that age with little muscle mass while it rolled before the car even ripped apart on that tree.
