We are already thinking about a return trip and exploring more of Crete and other islands. Thanks for the video, Wolter's World.

A few things: there are a few beaches near Chania that are spectacular for families with small kids: the water is clean and gets warm like a bathtub, plus the water is shallow for for a long length. Elafinisis beach is very windy and has no shade. It is a strange combination of very hot and quite cold. Balos beach is also pink and more beautiful. You can get there by a big boat and on yhe way also visit some fortress.

I'm here in Chania right now! I wish I had seen this before going. Well most of the points I figured out quickly myself, but it did take 2 or 3 days before realising you need to SHARE YOUR FOOD. We ate at a different restaurant every day and thought well surely it'll be different here 😂 I think it was day 3 or 4 where we went to places where many locals were eating as well, and they order just a plate for the table! You need a bit to learn portion sizes but you'll get the hang of it eventually!

Watching people describe places in the world I've never been to is always beautiful and interesting But in this case, watching someone describe the city in which I've lived my entire life is a surreal, strange experience Seeing you show places I visit on a daily basis and I'm like "Heyyy that's XYZ place Ive been there" Also the Algebra PTSD joke killed me, ngl Alright here are a few tips: 1. Tips are non-mandatory but greatly appreciated (like in this case, I'd like to hope), our wasges aren't 2. Traffic Signs are more like, suggestions, crosswalks are a nice decoration, do not expect drivers to stop for them, they won't, I've been alive and living in this city for the last 28 years, I've only seen people respect the Crosswalks twice, Traffic Lights work differently than what you may assume, for Vehicles Green = GO!, Yellow = GO GO GO GO GO, I CAN MAKE IT IF I RUSH and finally Red = I CAN STILL MAKE IT I HAVE ABOUT 5-10 SECONDS, please make sure to cross once you see the vehicle has stopped, people are incredibly Reckless here, finally Jaywalking isn't a thing here, you can just go, the police won't care, they do it too lmao 3. The Video is not quite factual on the "Everyone speaks English" part, sure in the Tourist-Heavy areas such as the Port and the Fountain Square you'll see a lot of people speaking English, however as you venture deeper into the city you'll find less people speaking English, that's not to say you won't find someone that does, but it's definitely a bit less prevalent within the city, for Instance; I work with 3 other people, I'm the only person that can speak English somewhat decently, I'd say try younger people, they are your best bet 4. Ntakos is an amazing recommendation, I'll just say, If you come here, go to a Cheese Shop (I'd recommend Mpalantinos, it's really close to The Fountain Square and has incredible quality, It's my go-to store so perhaps I'm biased here) and try Myzithra, it's that Cream-ish Cheese you can see at 10:49, but I wouldn't describe it as Cream Cheese, it's a bit more solid, but not quite as solid as say Feta, Anyway, Myzithra is a blessing, makes every salad better, makes every dish I don't like at least good (shoutouts to spinach rice) and makes Ntakos Heavenly 5. Dikastiria Square is beautiful and would recommend it, but there aren't many things to do here other than seeing the square itself 6. This is a gaming-specific recommendation, if you are looking to have a Break to play video games The 2 best choices in Internet Cafes are Inspot (which is near the Fountain Square) and Bits and Bytes/BNB (which is near Dikastiria Square) Great Computers, Good Snacks, Incredibly good and welcoming staff, my personal go-to is Inspot, or was when I was younger and used Frequent Internet Cafes Thank you for the lovely review

Goethe, the great German poet, once said that to truly understand a poet and his works, they must be read under the sky under which they were written. It's similar with alcohol :) and especially with retsina. This wine has an ancient origin, when amphorae were sealed with resin and that's why the wine acquired this strange, sharp taste. Retsina drunk under the Greek sky, especially if it is made of a good brand and properly chilled - can be unique. So there is nothing to be afraid of, although of course not everyone will like it.

One thing I remember is that a lot of the old buildings don't have a proper roof, but a canvas roof they pull over to keep the sun out. We were told they were bomb damaged in WW2, and the owners have decided not to replace the roof, but use canvas instead.

VERY IMPORTANT The old road (Mikis Theodorakis Avenue) has a lot of traffic. Go there only for renting a car and for the stalos beach. But in the stalos beach there are waves. If you catch the stalos beach without waves, especially if you have children, GO. The waters aren't deep at all (my personal favorite is the Canteenery restaurant). Also, don't forget to apply sunscreen again or wear a T-shirt if you have (bought) plenty.

We are planning on taking an Italy/Greece/Mediterranean trip in 2 years to celebrate her retirement. We absolutely can't wait. About the drink you mentioned about not passing up, 1/3 of people do not drink at all, which is a high percentage. A mistake most people make is thinking nearly everyone drinks alcohol. We don't drink, so will the restaurant that serves that drink give us a desert instead? Thanks for posting, they're very informative.

I stayed in Agia Pelagia, Lygaria….strictly for swimming…which was fine….since there is nothing at all else to do there. Nothing. Taxis or rental cars are the only ways in and out. At least 30 euros to Heraklion, which is good for only a day trip, though I stayed for 2 or 3. No real old town….not like old towns in the rest of Europe. Aside from the swimming, Crete was such a let down. And for swimming, I’d rather go back to Cyprus. At least there you can walk to several beaches from one base location, and the water is the best I’ve seen in the Mediterranean. I WILL go back to Greece, just not Crete. I spent 12 days there and my single greatest expense aside from airbnb’s was for taxis. Over 300 euros for about half a dozen rides. 😢remember Wolters world is getting paid, these days. 😊I love your show, but as a fellow traveler…slow traveler, I am finding much too be countered with your info, or lack of specifics about places and transportation.
