@@teleportedfunk Most Slovaks are down-to-earth, humble, hard-working people. But the leaders they elect are often quite the opposite for some reason. Referring specifically to the Smer party. Sadly at time of writing she's soon to be replaced. If anything I've said doesn't make sense to you, tell me specifically what, and I'll be happy to explain.

Slovak girl here and I'm just SO HAPPY to see and hear someone talking good about us. I love this video and I also hope there will be more tourists some day. We, Slovaks, may seem to be mean, but it's just face, ok? :D We are mostly too fun, too friendly, we love to help if we can, we will gladly miss our bus home to show you around. You just need to be brave enough to talk to us! Yes, that's true that older people don't speak english too much, but you may be lucky with Hungarian or Russian (older people!; younger people don't speak these two often). Spišský hrad or "Spiš castle" is not that hard to say, actually! Beside our " ô ", each of letters is easy to say in English. " Š " in Spiš is literally the same as "sh" in show. If you want, it would be just "Spish castle", haha! With Czechoslovakia... we're parted for some time now, but we're not that offended much when someone calls us "Czechoslovakia". It hurts more when someone calls us "Slovenia". I don't mean it in a bad way at all! But as you said, with Czechs, we are just like brothers. Czechoslovakia was our shared country. There's still our legacy in that. But Slovenia... they are totally different nation, you know? And as I am from Košice (eastern Slovakia) I just want to say... Bratislava is not the only city in here, pf. There are in the end nicer and more beautiful places around Slovakia than Bratislava is (Košice for example!). Don't take just one hour from Vienna to visit Bratislava. Instead, come travel around our whole country, beside our capital city, and you'll see for yourself. Our country is not boring at all. We may not have big cities as Prague, Vienna or Budapest are, but I swear, we are much funnier here and have A LOT of stuff to show you that you won't even have enough time to see them all at once. Love you, come visit! 💖

I spent a few days in Bratislava in 2017 and LOVED it! We drove through the country in the evening and gasped at all the castles lit up on the hillsides. So many of them! Since it has been a few years, I can't remember exactly why I felt that Slovakia was so American-friendly, but it did feel that way. I suppose it was the people there. The first evening we checked into our beautiful white-washed stone hotel in Bratislava, I flipped on the TV and was shocked to see Twin Peaks playing. Episode after episode :) Someone at the Slovak TV station has a sense of humor!

I grew up in Slovakia and I used to watch Twin Peaks with my dad lol And you're right that Slovakia is American-friendly, two very important documents were signed in the US, the Cleveland Agreement and the Pittsburgh Agreement which helped Czechs and Slovaks to get rid of the monarchy (Austro-Hungarian Empire) :) We wanted to be a democratic country (federation at that time) and the US was the first country to back up this plan so thank you for helping us :)

Your partner is Slovak, there's no such word Slovakian. Slovak mountains, Slovak cities, Slovak people etc.

Thanks for speaking about my country in a very positive way. And yes, it is a great country, so it is a shame that many people only talk about Prag when Slovakia is also beautiful. And yes, Slovakia is not in Eastern Europe. Exactly!!! I like your video

Thank you Mark for a nice portrait of my homeland. It made my day. I liked that you distinguished between a cheap country and an affordable country. Yes, 20-30 years ago, Slovakia was a cheap country for many tourists and later it became affordable. (Unfortunately, for the majority of locals it is a very expensive country when you consider that they have to live on their low salaries (3.71€ per hour, 646€ per month - brutto, 2022). We 'joke' that Slovakia is the country of miracles as it is a real miracle to survive there. Many people do their shopping in Hungary, Austria or Poland as it is cheaper.)

Such a lovely and upbeat video! As someone who's born and raised here, this brought a big smile to my face. Also, you said you didn't know how to pronounce Spiš but you said it really well the first time around! Just the i should be a tiny bit shorter because you said it close to spíš, which translates to "you sleep/you are sleeping" :)

Nice video! As a Slovak, I'm happy to hear that you like it here. 😊 I recommend to visit Špania Dolina (the village in the hills), Stará Ľubovňa castle, Strečno castle, Kremnica city or Skalica city. Honestly, there are too many great places, even I haven't visited them yet (but I want to!) 😂. Have a nice day. ✨
