Loved Lubljana. It's fairly small, but if you're on a tour in Europe, it's excellent to just relax a bit, soak in the atmosphere for a few days before going to the next bustling metropolis where your senses can get overwhelmed. It's fairly affordable, close to other countries (you can be in Vienna or Budapest or Venice in less than a day) if you'd like a change of scenery, it's quiet, lots of beautiful Habsburgian architecture (and some decent social-realist stuff, too, if you're into the stuff), it's a bit of Austrian grandeur with Italian flair and Balkan fire, but all unmistakably Slovenian, and I like it. Slovenia is definitely on my to-do list for the future.

All ex-Yugoslavian countries are pretty safe, but because of the media people tend to assume it's not and get positively surprised when they visit. I'd say Slovenia is definitely the ex-Yu country that is doing the best, we all have a lot of looking up to do, in the environmentally conscious department especially. There's a pretty big cafe in this region, so greetings from Belgrade, the city with the first cafe in whole of Europe (year 1522), it's a big part of our culture. :D

I've been waiting a year for your Slovenia videos. 🇸🇮 I was so looking forward to showing it to my family in April, 2019, and you know what happened to that trip... One year later, we still haven't been able to do it... But I'm happy to say that I've been studying Slovenian with a tutor on italki. By the time we finally go, my Slovenian will be much better! 😁 I haven't been there since 1997. I'm half Slovenian, so it's always a special place for me. ❤️🇸🇮 Hvala lepa! -Sarah

I appreciate the kind word from your video and many others from the comment about our country. It’s always fun and interesting meeting new lovely people. But as a Slovene I must say that the tourism in the past years (despite Covid) has massively grown, which we are really not used to cause as you say we are a peaceful place which is turning into a non peaceful place more and more. No hate here, just concerned of so many advertisements of our country that it has an impact on the locals like not wanting to go to the center or around the city cause it’s always so crowded now, sadly. But thank you for your kind words!

But, hey, you're welcome 🤗 It is always good to hear good things about your country.

Been watching your videos for a while and I'm very pleased you made a video about my city and my country 🙏 The pronunciation of Ljubljana is very difficult for foreigners but you said it quite well. Most of us locals just call it "Lub-lana" without the "J's" 😁 I can see why tourists would use the funicular but again most of us locals just go up to the castle on foot. Its not even that far or high, you get there in 5min from the old city center 👍 Otherwise a very well researched and observed guide that should help a lot of tourists that will come to our beautiful country ☺️🇸🇮

As for traditional slovenian food ask for "Enolončnice". Meat and vegetables cooked together, and there is a wide variety of them for everyone's taste. If in Slovenia, visit the lakes (Bohinj, Bled) and the mountains. As for the Adriatic coast I'll be honest: the few settlements on the seashore are nice, but the beaches aren't that great, so don't be disappointed. For beaches on the Adriatics Croatia might be a better choice. Wealthier slovenians have second homes there with a reason. Slovenians are diligent, hard working people, with a work culture similar to north-western Europe. Their folk music (Oberkrainer style) is a unique version of the Alpine music, worth listening to!

Trains are slower, yes, but they are quite comfortable, and the views are spectacular, especially where you travel to Zidani Most, it's gorgeous travelling through the valley. And some trains have catering (at least the Emona to Vienna), which is one of my favourite pastimes. Taking the train is not as straightforward as taking a bus (there are numerous buses from Trieste to Slovenia, and only very few trains, often with numerous changes), but it's fun nonetheless, even more if you are a train fan like me!
