A bipartisan bill that would authorize Colorado Parks and Wildlife to reintroduce wolverines is advancing in the legislature. FOX31's Rachel Saurer learned the effort has been decades in the making.

0:48 -0:54 He's confusing wolverines with WOLVES. Wolverines are practically as feral as Tasmanian devils, dingoes, or hyenas. I'd bet he'd tell us that stingrays have NEVER harmed a human being.

Resident Colorado big game hunters pay higher license fees than just about any other state and we have the lowest success rate of any state for big game. Maybe wildlife and parks would like to address that first since their primary responsibility is to hunters and fisherman? I don't mind the wolverines if they are introduced properly, but i want to see deer hunting tags available to every resident hunter and i want to see public land success ratios go way up before w&p even thinks about wolves and wolverines. Prior to hickenlooper conjoining the DOW and the state parks department (terrible idea) hunting tags were available to residents in most parts of the state, deer and elk populations were constantly rising for like 100 years, the fishing was world class throughout the state and after the merger fishing has become aweful in most of the state, hunting tags are almost impossible to get, tag fees have almost doubled, the elk herds are gone off most of the public land, they constantly say the herd numbers are going down and try to blame it on this and that, (not their own mismanagement) they moved the rifle seasons back such that much of the public land is inaccessible most years due to snow as well as being empty of game at that point because of the snow, and on and on...and they just could care less... I've hunted big game for 36 years and 27 years of that in Colorado... it's been a tragedy watching this all go down the last several years.

CPW's primary responsibility is to the statutes of Colorado set forth by the voters. They are law enforcement. Hunting and fishing is only an aspect of what they handle. Colorado is a blue state and the hunters, ranchers and fishermen just aren't used to actual environmental protection and rewinding policies. You're not the ones controlling Parks and Wildlife like they do in the red states. And I don't feel bad for the hunting community, because what we are trying to accomplish is beyond your stupid tags or cattle crop.

@@Reed411 the only reason there is a cpw or any wildlife left in colorado or most anywhere on earth is because of hunters and fishermen.

@@curly__3 I believe that's true, but what's your point? Game and Fish is more than hunting and fishing now, it has environmental activists, ecologists and preservationists now. Times have changed.

Dumb. You have very nomadic wolves, people who want to stop hunting and now add more animals??? You say they haven't attacked....but yet I hear this repeatedly about Mt Lions. They Never attack humans. They say that here, they say that in CA. (Huh, one in the same.) We know that is not true. Even coyotes attack humans. When you build so many homes they have no place to go, or you are living on top of their dens, what do you expect. A co/worker moved to a new home, her small dog disappeared. She walked the bike trail and saw a sparkle. Outside a coyote den, over a dozen animal collars were scattered around. I have been here for 60+ yrs. I didn't see a moose until the 90s in Grand Lake, a mt lion until the early 2000s and we camped often. Now, I've seen mt lions out by sterling, a moose over by Greeley. There have been elk and sightings of a bear on the east side of I-25 near Johnstown. It Isnt climate change, its human sprawl. If we stop the control of wildlife, it wont just be our pets and livestock that get killed. People complain about birds of prey taking their pets from their yards but yet more and more people move here..... you want to make the wild animal population larger. You really think they will stay where you tell them to? They will go where the food is. Farm land. Town parks, golf courses but so will the predators. Why spend the energy killing an elk when they can kill your dog, your goats, sheep..... little kids in the yard??? Wake up
