This is a perfect opening scene. It really sets the tone of the movie and lets us know what we’re in for. The Wolverine we’re used to see take out dozens of soldiers in a confined space is now struggling with 5 low-time thieves. He’s old, tired, limping and his claws don’t function properly. From the first 2 minutes of the movie, they let us know this isn’t the Logan we know and that we’re in for a depressing story.

💯 I remember the bubbling excitement of everyone in the cinema gave way to ‘o crap, this is serious’ after this scene. Logan was a revelation in terms of the ‘super hero’ genre we had all grown use to. This movie has heart albeit a broken one. I love it.

@@adamt5846 I believe with charles it's mostly dementia of some sort, maybe alzheimers, generally old age related issues, he was nearing 100 years old in the movie. With logan, I believe the corn syrup has the mutant cure mixed into it, so his frequent drinking and the adamantium poisoning put him into his terrible condition
