Both deer and wolves use the stream to cool down and quench their thirst before continuing their pursuit. The doe even seems to use the stream to conceal her tracks by walking in the water in the opposite direction she originally went. It's incredible how much info you can get with a short trail cam video sometimes. Thanks for sharing.

The deer may be using the stream to displace her scent, but understands nothing about concealing tracks. Animals don’t think like that.

There are no predators except humans that track animals by foot/hoof prints. Wolves track by scent, which is not concealed by moving around, nor by the water. The deer is only moving around because they are in flight mode and exhausted. They can only maintain high speeds for short distances, and wolves are persistence hunters. "I am a certified wildlife vet & ecologist (PhD)." Please don't misrepresent professionals. Such a person would know that there is no such thing as print tracking by animals, as well as basic details about animal behavior.

That is the life of deer. They feed, breed during the rut, which can be exhausting on them to the point they can't survive the winter (if the herd is out of balance, i.e. too many does and few bucks), they run from predators, including coyotes, and they are also maimed and killed by cars. Oh, and those who survive all that, they lose their teeth to old age and die of hunger. People who are opposed to hunting think deer only frolic in the fields and look majestic.

This is incredible footage!! The way the wolf drinks in the stream makes me wonder if I should give our dogs a larger water container, so they can put their muzzles in like the wolf did. Maybe I'll test out the stock tank for them.

They dip themselves into the water because of how hot they're getting. These animals are well insulated from the cold, and running for miles in an adrenalized state causes them to eventually overheat. Notice the temperature as recorded by the cameras, that water is ice cold!

1;20 that a SMALL Whitetail for that area in Minnesota/Manitoba Lake-of-the Woods area. Homesteads have gone back to deer browse. in Homestead days you sold your calves for cash, and hunter for your family. Some whitetail bucks are the size of grain fed steer. !! Chasing with dogs is illegal in Ontario: all the lactic acid makes everything unpalatable.

That doe was running for her life. Both animals have 4 legs. Sooo, the endurance match will be who can last the longer in the pursuit. Will the doe out wit the wolves or will they give up on the pursuit. Nature at it's best.

Predators can tolerate hunger and thirst longer. Deer can sprint fast but as is shown here they do run out of energy. And eating vegetation is a slow way of recharging - they have to eat a lot to recover. Wolves are prolific in MN lately, so I'm guessing they're very successful.
