Update: The USFWS announced on April 18, 2012 that the white wolf shown in this video had been trapped and euthanized. The dark wolf remained.
This video is of two wolves moving between two over 1-sq-mile open spaces through the back of our lot and our neighbor's 1-acre lot on Feb. 23 at 10 am. It is in the Indian Trails Subdivision in Jackson, WY. All kinds of wildlife move through this corridor all the time; moose, foxes, coyotes, mule deer, etc. This event has been characterized by news organizations as a "brazen approach" to area homes. It doesn't seem "brazen" to me, but two wolves moving between open spaces. These two deliberately avoided our driveway, veering away from our house choosing a more difficult path through deep snow.

@wyo22 My understanding is that these Canadian wolves are up to 33% larger than the original native wolves. Considering the fact that our elk and moose are smaller than their Canadian relatives, they are no match for the larger wolf. If I understand correctly, there was a better balance in their sizes so, now it's unbalanced and the wolves kill way more elk than the original wolves.

@ToshiroHoshi That logic is hysterical, there are much bigger predators in this area than wolves (I know, I lived in the Rafter J south of Jackson). Evolve or get thrown to the wolves....

@oregonmade10 Sorry there Tiger! I would say the main reasons lie in population when comparing the two. Although there isn't a documented case of Bison spreading brucellosis. I don't think you'll have to worry about the YNP elk herds too much since their rapid decline. If you look at the way they tested elk and compared it to the way bison were moved back to the park, it should be fairly obvious which is easier and less costly.

@operationNOBO I lived a mile, for 5 years, from where these wolves were spotted and filmed. I lived a year IN Yellowstone. I agreed the wolves needed to be but down if they didn't move out and I do understand the range of a pack and the dynamics, we have wolves now in Oregon. I DO agree with predator management and reimbursement to ranchers for lost stock. I'm not sure why you didn't answer the question why bison are hazed in Montana and not elk? Pretty simple question there Sport!

@oregonmade10 Relocation? This is a wishy washy move promoted by those who disagree with predator management. Wolves travel great distances, so relocating them would not do any good. If they relocated them to Canada, I'd go for that. I find the dollar and greed argument pathetic, here's why. These organizations such as DOW, WWP and HSUS among others, are all about YOUR donations using propaganda. Is that not greed?

@oregonmade10 I'm sorry you live in an unrealistic world and that you haven't figured out money isn't important. Leave the wildlife alone and let mother nature balance it out. Great Idea! Now, let's give money to those organizations who promote that idea! Wildlife management is an investment, in fact most of those areas where wolves are rely on that game to support their families. People who don't live near wolves aren't the ones who have the answers.
