Well, everything she said was a lie. When she said that he confessed because the police "promised to let him go." That's illegal in many areas of the United States. Police can lie about what evidence they have, but they cannot tell someone that they will be let go or get a shorter sentence if they confess. Any attorney worth as little as salt would be able to argue such a confession should be thrown out and any judge who knows anything would have been happy to do so. The fact it wasn't shows that there was no proof the interrogation wasn't done clean.

Women (and men) who are desperate and broken want someone else to put them back together because they’re hurting. And rather than deal with the situation they want everything to go away. One night, my stepfather was drunk. I had came in the room to sleep after a nightmare and my mom put me in the middle of the bed. I was around nine. He began to touch me, believing I was my mother. My mother was the one who stopped it and put me back in my room. She told me to not talk about it, and so I didn’t. When I brought it up to my therapist years later she swore up and down I was a liar. Only after she began the process of divorcing him four years later did she finally admit that she remembered seeing him assault me. She wanted to keep her family together and she wanted it to go away. I pray this mother gets a backbone soon and cuts this bastard out of her life. It will not only heal her, but begin a healing process for her daughter as well.
