There’s a storyline with the father that is skipped here (it’s unimportant): He had been complaining that the family kept leaving lights on, because of their electricity bill/financial issues. The house pushed him back into his alcoholic ways. One night he comes home and smashes every lightbulb in a drunken rage. So the mother kicks him out awhile. If memory serves he sobers up and rejoins the family in time for the climax.

i wish that was added bc i wondered where the father was when all this crazy stuff was happening 😭. seemed like he just appeared out of nowhere at the end, i thought it was gonna be some weird plot twist that he was actually jonah

The first time I saw this movie, I didn't understand what his treatment was. Now, as a full blown adult who has beaten cancer twice, I know he having radiation. I can't imagine how shitty it would be to have it on his head.

Also, formaldehyde has a shelf life of about 2 years. After so long, it would just be a mild acid. Also also; dead bodies stink. A lot. Kinda hard to not notice during renovations.

American horror movies are so tiresome retread of every other movie. Move into house, hosts drop snippets of hints, protagonists researches and unravels mystery, problem solved and gives RIP to ghosts, end of story. These ghosts can performs all manner of miracles except the miracle of writing down specific instructions on what they want.
