Lauren Pazienza pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the pushing death of a beloved 87-year-old vocal coach. Prosecutors say Pazienza was out celebrating with her fiancé when she stormed off in a fit of anger. That's when cops say she passed Barbara Gustern and shoved her for no reason. Gustern hit her head and died five days later. Two weeks after the incident, Pazienza turned herself in.

@@ibreak4pie990Well she pleaded guilty so it’s not really flawed for her to get a reduced sentence. If you plead guilty you tend to get a deal for a lesser charge. What other incentive would there be for a defendant to plead guilty if they didn’t get anything out of it? Everyone would just go to trial and try to get off. That would cost taxpayers more money and take up the valuable time of prosecutors and the court system. So if you plead guilty, a lesser sentence makes total sense.

I mean, she was upset and did something selfish, but she obviously didn't mean to kill anyone. It's just really tragic. You see people violently shoving others around all the time in video clips. Some get hurt, but death is not the typical result. I think 8 years is not too little, especially since it looks like she's already deeply remorseful and will likely never push anyone ever again. She also has to live with what she did. I had some people really messing with me once and I pushed some of them aside to leave. If one had fallen and died as a result, I'd be deeply broken.

I'm pretty sure that lady hit the sidewalk concrete hard, and it must’ve been a brutal push, too. Just pure evil I couldn't continue with someone that would just hit a senior citizen for no reason heartless. We all need a person with wisdom that is still willing to teach. She still had a lot to give to this world. My deepest condolences to the community and family.

Only 8yrs? *Let me put in to perspective of how sickning this is* . She(Murderer) shoved an old lady, watched as she tumbled and hit her head, didn't care, walked off leaving her to be found by someone else as she was dying and went on with her life. No remorse for what she did, but awe struck and crying because she didnt know she got caught in 4k. Had this been the mother/grandmom of the Judge, they would've made up a new number for how long this murderer would've been behind bars.

Murder needs intent. This case did not prove that. When someone is shoved, it's usually not done with the intention of killing them

As Larry Lawton once said, there’s two types of criminals that don’t do well in prison. And that’s Pedos, and those who hurt the elderly. I’m not sure how it works in women’s prisons, but I hope she gets a decent beating for what she’s done.

She needs to be taking anger management classes too. It would be different if she stormed out of the restaurant and accidentally bumped into her and she fell over but if she actively shoved her and caused her to fall over and didn't even bother helping her up. I understand she turned herself in and pleaded guilty but still...

If I recall correctly she crossed the street to push her. The old lady wasn't even on the same sidewalk she was walking on she ran across the street just to push her on purpose for no reason. And she didn't turn herself in, she hid for as long as she could. At first they weren't sure who killed the old lady and this girl kept quiet, then they put up the notice with the killers face and she still hid for a while until they tracked her down to her parents place. It was a while ago so I could be wrong on the details here, but it's also not my fault our garbage justice system takes so long to actually deal out justice. And all that build up for what? 8 years

Then she went and hid at her parents house for a whole two weeks, before she couldn't hide anymore. 8 years is nothing, she will be out in less than that. Unacceptable!

@@firebenderkitty313Of course anger makes us do stupid things. Plenty of deaths result as a case of us seeing red. What is shocking about this case is that it was like a temper tantrum. I agree, this woman is a danger to society.

Ironically enough the problem wasn't that she was angry but wasn't processing her anger. The more you suppress the more an emotion will possess. Also ironically the commenters calling her evil aren't processing how they feel either, (not saying anyone here will push an old lady). Evil is a judgement not a feeling.
