So fare evasion DOES effect the tax payer and the fare payer. If EVERYONE paid their FAIR share, maybe the carfare wouldn't need to be increased. Interestingly, during 2022, Black and Latino New Yorkers accounted for 73% of people arrested and given a summons for fare evasion.

And by that I mean that there is a very different value system to that of the one that many of us were taught as we were growing up. For example, "Conflict Resolution" quite often seems to include physical violence among some folks. That's probably why there is more physical violence in some neighborhoods than there is in others. Now as for you comment, "It's better to not get involved in things that don't involve you," I would say this. The effects of fare evasion DOES involve those of us who DO foot the bill by paying our carfare and paying our taxes. The MTA lost $690 million dollars last year due to FARE EVASION. Someone has to pay that bill. It's almost as if some folks are so used to NOT contributing their fair share they don't even realize that *someone else has to* in order for society to function. Such thinking seems childlike to many of us.
