It’s actually fairly easy for a Canadian to receive an American drivers license if they are working in the US. I had done it myself 10+ years ago. Beyond the immigration paperwork that shows that I was legally there, I had to trade in my Ontario license for a NY one - much like how one would trade in their license from another state after moving to a new one.
