Imagine if didn’t have family fighting for her release or funds to hire an attorney. How many more wrongful arrests have been made? Our criminal justice system needs reforms, it needs to get better. This was a no brainer, one simple background check or a fingerprint could have verified she was the wrong person. There is definitely negligence involved and it’s absolutely not acceptable to keep a innocent person in jail.

I don't have to imagine it. I'm poor and have an extremely common name. Job background checks sometimes show i'm a black man currently in prison in Florida. @@steveanton763 we only hear about Black and Latino people being unfairly arrested and locked up. White people are being wrongfully locked up too but their silence makes it easier to rob them of their freedom. Nobody seems to care about an average looking white person getting locked up. This lady has good looks on her side and that is the only reason we listen to her story. White people had better wake up because the powerful use negative minority stereotypes to trick average white people into thinking American Law Enforcement won’t target them. However the majority of people in American prisons by sheer numbers are white. The majority of homeless people are white males.

That’s why she’s throwing him her grandma’s death in there (which won’t stand btw). Grandma dying 2 weeks after being jailed as a result of stress?? If grandma had any heart conditions or medications, this is easily being thrown out. I know she deserves compensation for being jailed without cause… but being greedy and using grandma’s death as a bargaining chip is just savage and wrong. When you take authority over someone else's life and deny their freedom, you have a responsibility to make sure that you have 100% of the details vetted and verified. This is a pure case of extreme negligence on multiple levels. If I were on the jury I would take the idea that her grandmother stroked out and died because of the stress. If the prosecution asked for $100million for this case I'd vote to approve that much or even more. This shouldn't have happened and should NEVER happen again. [But we know it will.]

LAPD GETS IT WRONG AGAIN! I feel so bad for this woman and I hope her case serves as an example of LAPD incompetence. A few years ago I was pulled over while driving in L A, ordered by multiple officers with GUNS DRAWN ON ME, to exit my car, handcuffed, detained while my car was searched and refused information as to what in the HELL was going on. I'd done nothing wrong!!! There was a LAPD helicopter above, no less than 6 patrol cars and several canine units surrounding me but officers REFUSED to explain what was going on. Turned out the license plate on my leased car had somehow been associated with a crime of Fraud; I asked WHO they were looking for and was told (get this!) a MALE / HISPANIC / 20 SOMETHING. I AM FEMALE / CAUCASIAN / EARLY 60'S! But if that wasn't enough, I ASKED if they were going to impound the car and was told "NO". That was a lie...they impounded the car and left me and my two dogs standing on the sidewalk along with all of my personal items I had to retrieve from the car before it was towed away. I used to think highly of LAPD until I experienced their incompetence.

I was only there for 7 days, not a lucky 13, still, such a horrendous mistake by people who are supposed to be professionals is so wrong. The terror of being in a jail cell for something I didn't do, would never do, made me so angry. Sue them, girl! Go at it hard. @Marcus Holiday The sad reality is that the fault lies solely on the incompetence of law enforcement in this case. It's a huge wake-up call to train people in law enforcement better. When this happened to me, it wasn't because someone else & me had the same name. It was because the officers felt that I looked like someone they were trying to catch. They even accused me of having fake IDs to convince them that I was not who they were looking for as my name was not the same as the person they were looking for.

imagine a police dept that does not confirm identity by fingerprints - - as part of the booking process I'm sure they took this young woman's fingerprints and mug shot yet they failed to compare them to the picture or fingerprints of the actual person being sought person on an open no bail warrant from another state to confirm they had the right person. They flat failed to do their job in a professional manner and I sincerely hope they are held accountable for that failure - - the only bad part is its the taxpayers whose money will be used as compensation that failure with the possible exception of the airport police who initiated the arrest.

Right!!! I REALLY wanna be on the side of police, as I truly believe that the majority of them are good and have good intentions, and are willing to risk their lives for ppl they don't even know. But with what the police are doing to ppl in Canada, and stories like this--theyre slowly but surely making conservatives becoming more vocal about their incompetence. Now I will never agree with TARGETING cops like BLM did...busting their car Windows, throwing bottles of urine on them, running them over, killing them execution style etc....but that doesn't mean I will blindly follow police in every single situation. When they're in the wrong--everyone should call them out. when they're NOT in the wrong, we should stick up for them verbally.

Does anybody think to educate themselves on the facts before spewing an ignorant opinion? This woman did not voluntarily stay in jail for two weeks before asking for a lawyer. She retained a lawyer immediately. But she was being held on a no-bail warrant. So she and the attorney had to go through the legal process with two hearings before a judge to establish her identity and show she wasn't the person being sought and give the prosecution time to make its case. That's what took almost two weeks.
