There is something this seems to happen to a person when they put on period clothing. It kind of takes you back in time. You almost feel like you're any different place Ace and a different time. That's one of the things I love about Mountain Man rendezvous. It might not be perfectly accurate, but it's about as close as any of us will ever get. I love Renaissance and old west reenacting. It just takes you back! And you look absolutely stunning and that outfit! Really!!

The outfit looks very nice on you! From what I have researched, the "pointy tip" on the back of the hood had a couple of functions. A person could keep small objects, personal items, dried bits of food, and fire starting tinder to keep it dry in the rain. Also the long tip helped expel rainwater off the hood and keep water from around the head and neck. Excess water could be squeezed out of the fabric to drink at times. Some later versions of the hood had a much longer and thinner tip that could be wrapped around the neck, like a scarf. So in the cold weather, you could pull the hood around the face and wrap your neck with it. A lot of history and functionality to the clothing of that era. Thanks for sharing the beautiful video!

I can really see your Viking heritage now that you are in authentic outfit. I hope you wear that a lot. It looks stunning on you and I’m just trying to imagine what it would be like if I were backpacking and came across someone in the woods in Viking clothing. Like stepping into a “where am I” zone! Beautiful outfit with hand stitching, beads and bear broaches. Have you ridden your horse in that outfit or did women have side saddles then?

I have just watched this again, and have to add this, their is no need for you to be an expert, you actually are a Viking women. The first part of you sitting in the grass with the trees around looks as it an intro to a film, it's that well done and the expressions on your face, deep in thought, your there, body and soul. Really good video Tammy. Arthur (UK)

Very Nice. Love the whole Outfit. Hooded Cape is perfect,That color of green is my favorite. One day I will send you a pic of a trench coat of the same color I am turning into a foul weather bush coat, since I will never be wearing a suit again in this life. Leather , Wool, and Cotton Canvas are excellent materials to work with and live with in the bush. For waterproofing on leather and canvas and to make them wear forever I use Beeswax. Sno-Seal I buy in case lot's. I use waxed thread to sew the leather and canvas with, then use the Beeswax to seal it all and protect it from rain, snow, wind and Sun exposure. It also makes the leather soft and pliable, and will last a lifetime if cared for with a little maintenance. (I one coat all the leather pieces before sewing, then add another coat or two depending on use of item made.) Have a feeling your Post will be used to send you many pieces to add to your attire. Always look forward to your videos Tammy and your smile.

I too have a Scandinavian heritage. I think the women wore leather belts for several reasons: 1: The strength and durability of leather. The Vikings hung a lot of things from their belts and women were no different. Everybody wore a knife. And a woman might wear a sewing kit. Some of her tools used for spinning and/or weaving. Eating utensils or a cup. Anything she used repeatedly. 2: As you mentioned women were pretty much in charge of all things textile. And were expected to produce the clothing for their families. That’s a lot of time just sewing not to mention spinning and weaving. Inkle loom or finger weaving takes a good bit of time and yarn/thread that could be used for sewing, spinning, weaving. There is a rule of thumb that says it takes two full time spinners to keep one full time weaver in thread/yarn. Many households would task the elderly women or maiden or widowed aunts with spinning. Hence the term “spinsters”.

Hi, I thought of a idea for Spirit Forest when you mentioned the Viking fabric dyeing. Eco Printing. It's a dyeing process that produces beautiful images of flowers and foliage using their natural dye on paper or fabric. You could make a beautiful journal, or a shirt, or scarf....maybe for an activity your kids or students or items for your charity. Twig crafts could be really fun activity for Spirit Forest. There are lots of videos DIY on Y-Tube . Looking forward to more videos. Thanks for sharing!

Have you ever listened to Albannach? Their music is... well... hard to describe. I could listen to them for days. Also, this guy plays the bells. He's called Cast in Bronze. Can't describe that either. Mystical. Ethereal. Hmmmm...unearthly. Look this music up on KZbin if you've never heard them. You won't be disappointed. Albannach is...here I am again searching for words...hummmm...it's raw, wild, driving, pulsating, ethereal. Makes your skin vibrate...and your brain? It does all kinds of stuff...LOL! Everytime I've seen them perform live, it was like being transported back in time. I could see and hear the lives and voices of the Norse ancients and was mesmerized. Sorry, I'm stumbling here. Very hard to put such emotions into words. Well, I just love that stuff. LOL! 😎

Very Cool - Beautiful. I couldn't wait for more Viking shows to come on the TV. I was intrigued with their culture. I'm Irish/Scottish so we've probably met in our past lives... BTW here's a TIP about splitting wood. After you first get the axe in the wood, turn it over and hit the axe on the bottom with the log on the top. That'll force the log onto the axe with more force.

Your regalia is a historical record of your family... The "point" on your shall has a purpose. Just like a fringe on leathers. It "wicks" water out of the garment.. Just think about the " design".. It is usually " functional", it is important to have for the intent of purpose, not always a fashion statment!!! Good vid.. Watched it several times , so I would not miss details.. Good job! They would have their tools n possibles in a pouch n knives on the " right side", that was the " utility side of the person, on the left the " heart side", you are learning well grasshopper..!!! See ya along the trail! ATB from sunny Wintergarden,Florida!
