The sad demise of Wheel of Fortune, the whole presentation looks cheap and nasty. The numbers on the wheel look like they've been made a la Blue Peter style. John Leslie was an ok host but not as good as either Nicky Campbell or Bradley Walsh. It happened to Catchphrase, it was curtains when the long running host left, the popularity plummeted and the quality of the show/prizes. The 'prize guy' being on stage is also really lame.

But fortunately, in 2013, Catchphrase was brought back. Who knows? Maybe the same will happen here.

The UK never got the touchscreen puzzle board? I feel very sorry for them, the Australians had theirs, and the Americans got ours in 1997.
@TheStevenWhiting8 жыл бұрын
touchscreen was more than likely deemed to expensive. Shows in the UK don't make the big money the American games shows get.
@cutemimi258 жыл бұрын
Steven Whiting I knew that, kinda.

Also, by the end of the show's life it had relegated from a primetime slot to a lunchtime one, and the top prize had been cut by 10.
@jamesharding3224 жыл бұрын
The Aussie version was on it's way out by the time we got the touchscreens down under (largely because of Rob Elliot being replaced with the incompetence of Steve Oemcke, which proved to be the show's death knell). I also didn't like the "compact" gameplay and the apparent drop in the intelligence of contestants on our version in the 2004 season

You could definitely see the decline in the show's quality after Bradley Walsh left. They seem to have been reduced to running the show on a £4,000 budget, with the prizes becoming so cheap and nasty - Why was the jackpot cut back to a miserable £2,000 having been at £20k previously? Where is the car prize? Where are the holiday prizes?? "Tonight's contestants are playing for these rejected store items! And one lucky contestant could win our grand prize of enough money to pay for their sick, dying dog's life-saving operation!" How exciting lol. To put it into perspective, when the show first debuted in 1988, the prizes were a car, £3,000 cash, an overseas trip, and a good variety of "minor" prizes. i don't mind John Leslie but Bradley was so much more fun - John being replaced with Paul Hendy was the final straw. Only way it could've been worse if they bought back the stupid trivia questions between turns they had in the early days of the show
@broadcastcallum70463 жыл бұрын
The reason the jackpot/show changed (and budget) was because the show was a once a week evening primetime gameshow. John Leslie hosted a series or two of those too before in 1998 they moved it to basically a year round daytime show. It lasted a 3 years in the format compared to the cull of Family Fortunes and Catchphrase in 2002 that went to daytime then axed.
I grew up in the 90's watching John Leslie as the host of Wheel of Fortune but this set seems unfamiliar to me as does the letters girl, where is Jenny Powell?
@jimmyboyzable6 жыл бұрын
The lovely Jenny Powell, at that point in time was no longer on the show as she left the series to start a family as she was already pregnant at the time she left the series (since 1995, replacing Carol Smilie). After a brief model search, Terri Seymour was chosen....
