Cops picked the worst moment to pit that BMW. They not only took her out but caused damage to other vehicles not involved with this chase. They had multiple chances to box that car between concrete barriers. Rookie drivers! That woman should lose her drivers license and her freedom for many years. Key moment was when the police car 🚔 turned his sirens on they coulda sandwiched her easily but apparently letting her pick up speed to 120 then pitting her into ONCOMING TRAFFIC is crazy as hell I guarantee you they got sued 1000% liable that pit was reckless 2 wrongs don’t. Make a right call off the chase let the helicopter track her or I heard there’s this new technology where they launch a spike at your car and it tracks you

I agree. The vast majority who flee have a criminal record. A minimum 18 months for fleeing with no previous criminal record. All previously convicted receive a minimum 2 years for fleeing, 2-5 for fleeing with property damage; 5-10 for fleeing with property damage and personal injury.

The cops really screwed things up. There were about 3 or 4 cruisers over on the right of the dividers, who could have stopped traffic before they attempted the PIT maneuver. Instead they did it with all the traffic still around and caused those two innocent drivers to crash and damage their vehicles. Not too bright .

@@xs10z yeah, the "they didn't know" part is the problem. Police can't just act recklessly because it is theoretically possible that a suspect is dangerous. Police used that type of reasoning in the past to justify all kinds of abusive actions. To accept it is to justify pretty much anything the police choose to do under the guise of some theoretical threat to public safety, which could be used against anyone under almost any circumstances . And if you give them an inch, they will abuse the power and go too far.

A pit maneuver isn’t a precision thing. The direction of vector of travel become random to a certain degree. Asserting they shouldn’t “pit INTO traffic” is like saying how dare the ocean waves crash against that barrier.

@@spaceshantynow1851 There were quite a few opportunities where one (or two) of the officers ahead could've used the bottleneck of traffic to block the shoulder of the express lane, slowing over time as the BMW caught up to them. Rear end either officer, add more charges. Then the pursuing officer would've simply parked behind her, making for an easy 3 car box. Even if a civilian vehicle was used for this box, it would've once again forced more charges if she dared ram either the officer or the civilian in the lane they're meant to be in, still achieving the desired result of stopping her.

California Highway Patrol does not do any pit maneuvers on the highway unless there are no other cars on the road. This was a bad decision on the cop who decided to do the pit maneuver and 2 innocent parties got involved which wasn't necessary. FHP should have new policies regarding this type of accidents.

I say the cop prevented that person from running over and killing someone.....albeit at the expense of some collateral damage. He takes a chance with the lives of innocent people if he lets it go on to a tragedy, then we wouldn't care if there was some collateral damage. I agree it was an inopportune moment, but that is short-sighted thinking. It's a pointless argument. Hindsight is always 20/20. There are always better ways. What we see as better or safer time to PIT is irrelevant. So when is the right time to PIT? Now, and never. When is the wrong time to PIT? Never and now. I am a huge supporter of the police. I think their salary should be doubled. But what the hell are the police doing in this situation? They did a pit maneuver Naz a result caused at least two uninvolved cars to crash! There are citizens, human beings innocent people in those cars. Now they’re injured. This is outrageous. Why didn’t they wait and tell the speeding driver stopped at her home, stopped at a gas station or ended up on a part of the highway that had a few cars? BUT, FHP would likely claim sovereign immunity and argue that if they didn't PIT the BMW there, she could've caused a "worse crash" later on. Either way, most likely it will be the innocents' parties insurance covering the cost of the damages. You could sue the lady in the BMW, but you'd likely never see anything so why bother with the legal expenses. TLDR: it's a lose lose situation.

What truly amazed me was the fact that this BMW actually had signal lights that worked. Very rare to see anyone driving a BMW and use their flashers... She should have gotten two years for each vehicle damaged in this ridiculous chase with absolutely no chance of parole !! However the saddest part of this chase is that there was numerous places they could have stopped her and feel where they finally stopped her was a very dangerous maneuver which could have harmed or even killed innocent people...not the police's best effort this time around I must say...very disappointing...

I find it despicable that FHP don’t care about the safety of others when initiating a chase with a vehicle. Heads-up, sometimes it’s safer to drop the chase and put out a BOLO on a car when it’s in heavy traffic because that PIT they did to that BMW caused much more damage to another innocent driver than it should have. In this instance, I don't think "innocent until proven guilty in a court of law" is what the framers of our Constitution meant. She IS guilty and should serve time behind bars. Here in the UK our motorway (highway) cops don't pit (because our roads arent as wide or have as many lanes as those in the US,we only have 3 lanes) fleeing vehicles but T-Pac them. A car in front and one each side with a fourth coming up behind to plug the gap if they attempt to reverse.
