I saw Women live A LOT back in the day; tried to catch every local show they played. I'll never forget the first time I saw them, the drummer was playing a standing kit while he was on stilts, standing close to 9 feet tall. He was banging away, keeping time like the metronome he is, the show was amazing. First thing I hear from the band the moment the show ends is the drummer yelling "I'm never doing this again" RIP to Chris RIP to Women Praise to Cindy Lee Praise to Preoccupations

I like that you mentioned the 60s 70s vibe in the vocals cause that’s def a direct influence on the singer Pat Flegel! It’s more apparent in his solo work as Cindy Lee where the instrumentals aren’t always as abrasive and metallic as with Women. As a massive fan of the band, Women is definitely a band that grows on you haha happy to hear they might be gaining another fan

Women were kinda a weird cross between the velvet underground and more noisy bands like this heat and sonic youth. This is probably the most accessible track off this album which has a lot more noise rock stuff. A good starting place would be "shaking hand" off their first album or "heat distraction", but their last album is genuinely one of the best albums of the 2010's imo. The vocals are really reverbed out and lofi on the second album to build a sort of dreary and spacey atmosphere. They were one of the few indie rock bands that really stepped out into a unique sound around this period of the late 2000's/early 2010's but they broke up so soon they never really got much attention. Fun fact: This entire album as well as their first album was recorded entirely on tape often in basements or in random outdoor areas. Also, a few tracks off this album used an obscure DSi app to make drones (their second guitarist who passed away would bring out the DS live for the song china steps).

Thanks for checking it out! I’ve heard one other track from this album, and I can say that their music is fairly dense and complicated. But man, that bass (or maybe it’s just guitar) line in the outro of this one is addictive. The vocals remind me a bit of Animal Collective, and the 60s sunshine pop comparison is definitely apt. And yeah, I’ve heard the first 2 Galaxie 500 albums. The reactions are on my channel actually.
