"In far off French Indo-China, where streets are dusty and the ladies dusky."

"Hanoi is a centre for an ages-old industry of paper-making - using special kinds of barks, pounded primitively into pulp." Various shots of the primitive machinery used to pulp the bark. Two men operate a large hammer device by jumping up and down on it. C/U of young boy working on the pulping. M/S of the two men putting their weight on the lever. C/U of the feet of one of the men. M/S of man loading bark into the machine. C/U of the bark being loaded in. "In the streets the public writer paints impartially any compliments (or complaints) to your lady love, you wish." that's not Chinese words, it's still Vietnamese like we use now. It's chữ Nôm(Vietnamese language) but from 1945 we start use Latin Vietnamese until today

China's culture is so strong that when the world looks at other countries that have hieroglyphs or wear ancient costumes, they are called Chinese.

A small subset of Viet Nam are Chinese since Viet Nam is multiethnic. Not to mention the Chinese dominated/imperialized Viet Nam for over one thousand years, so you can see their influences throughout the country.

The current writing system is not our original typography, we used to write in a language that resembles Chinese, which is called Nom, the latin characters are from some Spanish, Portuguese and French preachers that came to Vietnam at that time

That's the public writer they tend to write your certain word and wisdom that tradition still carry nowadays if you come to Vietnam during the lunar New year. And 1930 latin alphabet was still something new in the country, people that went to school still familiarize with the Chinese characters so .
