To any descendants of the Cook Islands, I humbly ask, what is your history before your people arrived and settled the island. What does your oral or written history tell of your origins? I ask, to put the pieces together of where Polynesians were before settling the islands. Before distance and time separated us, we were all one people. The similarities are evident in our languages, culture, physical traits etc. The many islands that our Polynesian people currently inhabit are sacred to us but many of us have stories of a time long before. Hello brother, I’m a Rarotongan. Rarotonga had western Polynesian ancestors and eastern Polynesian ancestors and we also know the history of both. The simple answer is that our history is far more complex then even Polynesians would think. There were like 5-6 eras of migrations which makes all Polynesians islands connected but also seperate. There a different regions that have different mixes. The most common mix is Melanesian and South East Asian - Samoans are the perfect example of this. Māoris like Fijians and Aboriginal Australians also have Indian ancestors, Maoris also have American ancestry in both North America and South America - Eastern Polynesians are the connection between Māoris, Western Polynesians and the americas. This is why Samoans generally look “Black” or “Asian” or mostly a mix but Māoris have so many different features. I have photos of full blooded Polynesians from each island and they all were darker but looked different from each other. The way you can tell what additional ancestors each island had is by the language, attire and tattoos. I’ve recently found photos of full blooded Rarotongans and they all individually look like they could be different ethnicities from each other. I myself can distinctively tell the difference between melanesians and Africans and lots of Polynesians have the Melanesians look, however, some kanaka Māoli (Hawaiians), Māori and Rarotongans looked African. Indonesians are similar to Polynesians the way they are extremely mixed. Solomon Islanders look like black Americans, which makes me believe that black Americans are also a mix of Melanesians and Africans, they look like a mix of both.

@@Capp75 Touariki, is part of Ngaputoru. I recently found that part of the family. The reason I went looking for them, as we have a family reunion for my papa line coming up end of the year. Obviously my dad siblings knew little about that side. But didn’t have a genealogy or anything to go off on. I wanted to know my identity and genealogy. My dad younger siblings wanted to know their dad side. My dad and his older brothers knew the family, but they didn’t want us to know them. Apparently some hidden secrets 🤦🏽‍♀️. Our family name was meant to be Tou ariki. However, from my papa one generation up and the rest of the generation downwards went to Tuariki. I seen 6 pages of the genealogy. Seen the name change several times. Touariki as one, then change to Tou Ariki, then to Tuariki. I’m nearly 40’s. My dad passed away young, back then I use to ask why don’t we know the Mitiaro side (papa side), but no straight answer. But me and my first cousins, papa children and our families are excited to know the family. Kept in touch with the fams from nz.
