I recently shaved my head because of alopecia. It's just as heartbreaking as the time the dermatologist told me it's permanent hairloss. It feels like I just lost at life. It's hard to look in the mirror and when I do its just another reason to hate myself. I hope in time I'll be happy again.

I shaved my head this summer. I really resonate with that hallow feeling. I couldn't recognize myself and I thought I would never feel pretty again. things are starting to turn up now and I am starting to find my confidence. I hope things start to look up for you.

Losing hair is heartbreaking, and if it's bothering you could try clinically backed up treatments or you could use wigs if you don't want any invasive treatment. Don't let hair stop you from enjoying life. More power to you and women with alopecia, you ladies are brave and strong.

The fact that there is no cure to this yet is sad. I started losin my hair at 17. I'm a guy and really insecure about it. Really wish they had a magic pill to permanently fix it.
@juannaym84886 ай бұрын
There are cures, but they are very individual Daily scalp messages, microneedling with a derma roller, Finasterid and Minoxidil can help, but it depends on the person and how they respond to it I'd say try out massaging your scalp and derma rolling weekly with needles of around 1.5mm. if that doesn't do it after 3 months, try microdosing Finasterid

I recently made the decision to shave my head, because if alopecia. For me I got tired of hiding. For me it was liberating to finally come free. At first it was hard. But then I accepted what it was and grasp it. It help me to realize that it takes courage and acceptance of self and knowing God is in control and makes no mistakes.

I was as well. Definitely frustrating and no cure. Wore a wig and everyone thought I had cancer. I know my husband was having a tough time accepting the new me. It definitely makes me very self conscious but after 38 years I decided I never have to go grey unless I want to. Being a blond is fun. I can’t ever go bald don’t have the courage or too much ego. Thanks for sharing.

Best to act as soon as you notice it. Speak to a doctor about getting Finasteride. But if it's rapid loss you might need to go straight to Dutasteride.

This happens to men, women and kids. It can be patched or total hair loss on the scalp, and the body. Auto immune disorders are tough to treat. To be philosophical we all lose things dear to us throughout life. Kids grow to be adults and lose interest in childlike things. A childhood friend becomes just another person in high school and after graduation is not seen again. We move away from our hometowns, most often never to return to live. We lose relatives throughout life. Guys have long had to deal with hair loss. There really is nothing to reverse make pattern baldness once it occurs. I have MPB and decided to shave my head. In doing so , I had to accept that my hair was gone and not coming back. I do not miss hair. Having a bald head does not make a woman unattractive, unfeminine and unladylike. A woman is not ugly due to baldness. What these ladies have to do is accept what has happened and live their lives as best they can. Life is not fair and you only get one go around in this world . In 200 years all of us and all who have known us will be gone, along with our problems. You have to make the most out of what you gave and not lament what you have not.

I don't have AA, but I have female pattern baldness and chronic TE and I remember how devastating it felt in the beginning. It's still hard, but looking back, gosh I have grown so much in self acceptance overall as I get older. Big hugs to all the ladies in this video ❤️

And seen a lot of African tribe women who have grown their hair down to their ankles-forget the name of this one tribe. What they use and do its totally different then how woman take care of their hair, use the dozens of products on the shelves-which sadly are never advertised for whatever reason. We can learn a lot from our ancestors as to hair care and simplify it for those who enjoy and love their.

Seeing her tear up at end broke my heart. She looks great without hair. Ladies out there with Alopecia, I know it's heartbreaking to lose hair but please don't let that stop you from living life. As cliche as it sounds, you're much more than your looks. If it's bothering you then consult trichologist and get treatment (PRP or Hair Transplant) or you could shave it off too, if it's not a big deal.

Having hair on your head and how you style just as wearing hair units, extension is a personal preference choice just like clothes. Generally, our society is very shallow and superficial and in having hair has become important-depends on the Indvidual. I'd feel usually most people would rather have hair while others maybe practical and realistic to shave it off and not either deal with it or maybe its apart of their career as a model in what they are told what to do and wear. From my perspective the majority of black females love their hair and rather not be bold lol. Barbies R us. I'm practical and tomboy so I'm not insanely devoted to my hair and not fond of how toxic human society is. Gender is irrelevant and if hair is important to you personally not giving a crap what others think then it's very important and a big deal. Alopecia is one of many hair problems. The other is hormones, being on hormone treatments, menopause which unfortunately every woman has to go through-and it sucks-been through chemo treatment, radiation, bone marrow transplants all becuase of cancer and now because of all that I went through I'm having thyroid issues and causes hair problems. Some people have had issues with hair because of medical issues, genetic, etc. But so far what its important is self-love and self-acceptance, which our society does not teach in the world of image-not enough. Television, posters, magazines rarely project unless it's a rare convenient story.

@michelesipes1949 Жыл бұрын
"Technically" you are wrong. Alopecia is hair loss - not all alopecia is alopecia areata, and not all alopecia has the same cause. It is commonly caused by autoimmune disorders which, yes, are considered a disease/illness/disorder. If it's not a disease, why do I have to take Immunosuppressants? What in the world would possess someone to say "it's not a disease, it's a condition" in the first place?

I never knew how much a woman's hair was important to me than when I was set up on a blind date with a woman who had alopecia. She was wearing wigs of course when I met her, why was this a thing? I just thought I could go on a blind date if I had my social anxiety mostly under control. This was something I did not expect and did not know how to deal with. The more I tried to make it work with her the more I felt at odds with myself. I don't think I have dated anyone else since then, even though it was almost 10 years ago. I feel angry with the person who set me up with her, and I can't remember who it was. Is that normal?
