The winner of this race would have come in 5th at winter juniors west last year. This race is going to get a lot faster in the next few years.

Wrong, women usually peak in high school and don't get much faster later in their carrier. This is because by around the end of high school girls stop growing and stay at around the same speed (Most of the time). If you look at men's NCAA swimming, the boys are MUCH MUCH faster than younger high school boys and that's because they continue to grow even during their colligate carrier. Women hit their growth spurt earlier than Men, but men hit a bigger growth spurt later which lasts longer.

And, like everyone entering this race this morning, she did not even make the "A" NCAA cut. What the hell was w/that ridiculously fast cut time that absolutely NO ONE made?

From what I understand it's based upon previous national champion times, and the record. So you have to factor in Ledecky's 4:24, which will drag down the A-time. Same situation in the 1650 I'd imagine.

@@willemstoll8198 Three women qualified for the 1650's "A" standard this year. I just think that when the winner of the entire event doesn't even make the cut of the event, there's something very wrong (and yeah, I know she made the "B" standard). Thanks for answering, I also think it's very mentally defeating. "Yeah, you're the best, but not that good...."
