As somebody who has never seen a hammer toss I’m surprised by how many of the throws were invalid. Goes to show how difficult the sport is, even at this level you can never be quite sure
@TubemastaC4 жыл бұрын
Getting a decent throw is super easy. If they were tossing it like 60m, all would do it really easy. The difficulty is trying to push that extra strength through and that is OD hard in the last half spin before the throw. It’s a fun sport. You should try it if you ever see it. Just throwing something is fun
@hardfugoo14 жыл бұрын
Not really surprising since the act of throwing it like this is barely controlled chaos. It’s to be expected.
@saragrant97493 жыл бұрын
The best throwers are right at the edge of control, it's how they get so much distance. Sometimes... it's a little over the edge.
@Zyvux.3 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind that if you do not walk out the back half of a circle it is a foul, so often times if the thrower sees that it is a bad throw, they will just walk out the front giving them a foul, as it doesn't matter at that point since the throw was short anyways.
@saragrant97493 жыл бұрын
@@Zyvux. that's very true. It can be a dangerous habit though- I've seen throwers who got a great throw on round one but chose not to keep the rest as they weren't as good as the first. They ended up tied with another thrower and were credited with the next place down- one spot out of a medal. Reason why? The tie is broken by the next best throw! Happened a couple of times at the Olympics!

I've recently tried hammer throwing for the first time. I'm 21 and been doing athletics (or track as i believe the Americans call it) for about 14 years, but my sports club is quite small and this year we finally got the material to be able to actually do this. And in my experience it's not as hard as you might think to throw it (throwing it far is a completely different story of course). It's basically impossible for the hammer to smack you in the face because of the outward momentum it has when you're spinning, and finding the right direction isn't as hard as you may think because you start with the ball at a low point and you have it high up at the point where you want to release it, which allows you to keep track of where in your rotation you are and when you have to release

Gwen Berry must have been too busy contemplating her activism to bring her athleticism. Price shows what a true proud American looks like!
@angelaaddo70183 жыл бұрын
Gwen wouldn’t have been busy being an activist if we didn’t live in a country that was racist and unfair towards black people. Saying that about price, when she has no idea what it’s like being a black woman is insulting. I won’t deny that she’s athlete but think about what your saying
@nesterperiwinkle3 жыл бұрын
@@angelaaddo7018 Are you black- because I am, and I think this is the greatest country on earth and her activism is liberal race baiting garbage. She is a puppet for the left. Her net worth is estimated at between $1-5 million, so not sure how terribly oppressed she is. She, like Colin Kaepernick, saw themselves losing their mediocre athletic abilities and decided to become their own misguided civil rights movement. She screams her “activism” and pouts when the focus is on better athletes. A true hero there huh.

A lot of child athletics events don't have it so it's not that common knowledge but I think most athletics clubs will have hammer throw equipment to use so it shouldn't be too obscure. I learned about it at the same time as the other throwing sports like shotput, discus and javelin.

Some states in high school offer hammer. Other than that shotput/discus throwers that compete in college may pick up the hammer since it's included in all meets at the collegiate level (unlike high school).

What a performance by Price ! Delivering under pressure with those huge throws is the mark of a true champion. It was however "Berry" disappointing that her American teammate couldn't put one throw on the board AND was no where to be found to congratulate Price for bringing home the win.
@Zerostar3694 жыл бұрын
That's because she's a racist who is there representing her race and not her country.
@asleep9094 жыл бұрын
I'm certain Berry was so angry at herself for not putting a single mark on the board (and being the only athlete not to mark) that she was probably quite despondent after the third round. She knows she can do better. I don't think it has anything to do with race so much as it has to do with what happens when someone who is expecting a high achievement meets with the absolute worst disappointment of her career so far.
