Full coverage of the women's single sculls rowing final from Eton Dorney as part of the London 2012 Olympic Games,
Rowing has been staged at all the editions of the Olympic Games, except in 1896 in Athens. It was, however, on the programme, but a stormy sea compelled the organisers to cancel the events.
Women made their debut at the Games in 1976 in Montreal. They competed in a smaller programme. The Olympic Games in 1996 in Atlanta marked the introduction of the lightweight events.

I think that’s partly true, but it also helped that she was probably one of the best in the field anyway. I believe she was World Champion that year. I think she slowed at the end because of how quick her start was.

Winning your heat gives you a better lane so if she got an advantage in the final it’s due to deserving the best lane from an earlier win.
