These two hate England. If you're going to say, if Kerrs chance had gone in its a different game. What about the chances England missed, are you just going to ignore them? Stanway missed a sitter in the first half, Bright put a free header wide, and Russo missed a good chance with a header too. You cant just say its a different game if Kerr took her chance, while ignoring the chances England missed. Nobody who watched that game can possibly think Australia were the better team!

Yeah, and they're undermining the fact that even when England are missing their star strikers (Mead, James) they have a broad range of other players that can score great goals when it counts in major internationals: Russo, Stanway, Toone, Hemp, Daly, Kelly and Bronze. In fact Hemp - who isn't regularly recognised - was the star player of the England/Aus semis. This isn't quite the same hugely broad depth dominant squad that powered through the Euros because of injury/retirements, but it's still a squad with a lot of depth. If you're relying on one star player to get you through, then I'd say maybe your overall team isn't as good. Also, if you look at England's last 38 matches (where they've only lost 1), there's several where they've come back from being either down 1, or after equalised. It's a team with a lot of mental strength and ability to find ways to get through.

It's potentially a superb match. No one can really call it at this stage. Both sides love dominant possession and attack. However, both sides have had flaws in this World Cup, yet are arguably two of the best teams in the world right now. In their last major international (Euro 2022 quarter final) Spain were the only team to seriously threaten putting England out; however England literally came back by the skin of their teeth to take the match with a super finish. The current Spanish squad is slightly better than their Euro 2022 team, conversely England - so far - haven't been quite as good, but still extremely capable of dialing it up (as they proved in the semis). Both teams have lost certain key players for various reasons. Neither have ever reached or won a WC final before. Lots to love about this World Cup final.
@dtrjones Жыл бұрын
I feel they are not giving England enough credit. Yes they've won two matches 1-0 and scraped past Nigeria, but they have the capability and the real thing is, how close was Nigeria, Denmark and Haiti to beating England, you know full well unless Nigeria scores in the last 10 minutes England comes back in that game, no doubt what so ever. Another thing you guys faill to realise is the mental strength of England, it's especially relevant given they defeated Spain after going a goal down. If Spain can play there best game against England in the final, then fair play to them, otherwise I can only see an England victory, especially if they score first.

England is not as good as in the Euro and Spain is better than in the Euro. The Euro match was controlled by Spain but they lost with last minute goal. Spain defense worries me a bit despite showing improvement over the tournament. I think it’s a hard game to predict.

@MrDragon1968 Жыл бұрын
Don't agree. This is not the same as the semis. England were a better and more experienced team than Australia. Certain people - mainly US commentators - (wrongly) predicted it might be tough for England as they've under-performed to their capabilities at times, whereas Australia have over-performed to their capabilities. It was a semi-final, England were always going to dial it up. This is different though. Both England and Spain are as experienced, talented and capable of taking each other out. If the Lionesses play as well as they did in the semis they're certainly capable of winning, but it wont be a walk in the park. Spain are as capable of beating England as England are of Spain.
@MrDragon1968 Жыл бұрын
@@postcardsfromprotest For sure, but Spain can be deadly. They were the only team to genuinely threaten taking out England in the Euro's, just 13 months ago. Both teams have sometimes under-performed in this tournament and have certain issues, but both have huge amounts of talent. I believe the Lionesses can now win this, but it's a fools game to be complacent. Spain will be their biggest challenge.

Bad idea, despite her goal-scoring prowess, she loses possession and gets England into trouble. it was her mistake against China which led to the corner which then led to the penalty for handball. She only passes when she is in trouble and tries to beat too many players and does not chase back. She clearly works on a very short fuse and is lucky it was not a whole tournament ban. Her apology to Michelle Alozie, was about as convincing as Will Smith's apology to Chris Rock at the Oscars👩🏾

Let's be real, whatever the result everyone knows this doesn't ultimately count. I see very little fanfare or excitement, no flags around and I've seen some pubs already advertising the rugby world Cup! Only reason anyone is paying attention is due to the media coverage like never before. Why would you settle to watch an inferior version of the game compared to the men's. Ultimately people want to experience and witness the very best standard and that's the male version of any and every sport and will pay thousands for the privilege. As everyone should know highschool boys teams have beaten the very best women's soccer teams so why are we celebrating this? Would anyone watch a male U15 world cup? Of course not. So people are only into women's football, or any women's sport for that matter because of gender not the quality and standard of the respective sport.

The English media & fans become increasingly insufferable the closer they get to a major final. You need to take a look at yourself. If the media can't get excited for the first final in 50 plus years, then when can they. This comment is increasingly boring and predictable. The Luck avoiding better teams is a fallacy. They have beaten Spain, Brazil, Germany, Japan, Sweden and the USA in the last couple of years. They have beaten an inspired Australia in front of an excited home crowd. They have beaten a decent Nigeria team and Columbia and will have to beat Spain to win it. Im not saying they will win it, but this haven't played anyone is being thrown at every England team since they have been making finals.
