Honestly. I was disappointed just looking at the comparisons of them shopping. While to show Indian culture she went down the actual streets and to nice specialty shops, Chantal just went to the equivalent on Kohls and got everything in what I assume was less than 2 hours and 2 stores. She wasn't thinking about showing the culture of LA, or what someone else would want. Instead Chantel just grabbed what she would have wanted or would have usually gotten. So cheap and flexible day to day stuff that she probably spotted on those random isles at literally any store. Seriously, that challenge was lame too. It was just a cop out to say "I don't know your size and I already got the sunglasses so...."

But at the same time there are different people out there and one person might think you should spend money on gifts while another thinks it's the thought that counts and doesn't like expensive ones. I myself don't like expensive gifts. I put a lot of thought into it, but spending large amounts of money to me does not equal good gifts. You have to buy gifts FOR the person. I think they both did good. If I were to receive spicy stuff, the bag, the face mask (I'm vegan and it's more than likely not), I would not be as thrilled as she was and would not find those things fitting for me. They both clearly did (apart from the sunglasses which seemed scary to her, but she then got to realize that they actually look really good on her and everyone liked them). Edit: whether or not the gifts were good is a different question, but I don't think money needs to be a part of it.

Really cringed when the first thing Chantel said about the sunglasses was about how it looks great on herself. It made me realise that Chantel's approach to the whole box was to get things that she herself likes instead of thinking too much about what Aishwarya would actually like. Aishwarya approached this challenge from so many perspectives, a traveller, a foreigner with limited access to Indian culture, Indian food, an American, and a fellow modern woman. I actually don't really blame Chantel, different people just think differently sometimes and maaayyybe Chantel really thought that her effort was good and thoughtful enough. But she said she didn't produce or edit this video so she didn't have much say about what got put into the final cut. But I think if they continue doing this series they need to give us more details about the "rules." That way those of us watching know that a challenge was supposed to be in each box and it's not just a cop out gift as well as knowing there is in fact a budget to stick to.
