Prayer changes us before it even changes our situations and the world around us. It changes us in obedience to God, and He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him Hebrews 11:6. He told King Asa that if he (Asa) seek Him, He will let Asa find Him. 2 Chronicles 15:2 God rewards us with His presence, with Himself when we seek Him. What a privilege we have! The enemy will try and try to cheat us out of this. So when you find out you can't pray, ask the Lord to give you strength and pray!
