Very true information. For those in Kenya, customary marriage is legal. But you must register marriage to get a marriage certificate which you take to embassy. Here is how to register customary marriage in Kenya. They Will come place a notice, after 21days they came for an interview and pay 3300|=. Then they will be given a date for the wedding. Requirements are 1.ID'S both copy and original 2. Birth certificates both copies and original 3. 2 passport photos @ 4. 600|== 5. Take at least two witnesses, and they need to bring ID. I have witnessed so many Kenyans who are customary married, apply as married and after being selected they register marriage. But with a chief or assistant chief letter which indicates exact traditional marriage happened and other proofs like photos etc, if Embassy consular asks why marriage certificate shows recent date. You can then show the proofs of customary marriage.
