I just love this movie. To me it's a good-memory/feel-good movie wrapped in one, for several reasons. One being back in 2000 my 3 kids were still kids and going to Blockbuster use to be part of a fun weekend event where we'd all chose a movie or game. I actually miss Blockbuster Hollywood even Tower had a cool video rental store here in San Diego. All are long gone now. Bummer. 😞 All A++ actors giving their A++ performances, you couldn't get any better or ask for more. I think Michael Douglas and Frances McDormand had good chemistry, wish they'd done more.

I went to a Liberal Arts college during the early '70s. It was still in the Vietnam War era. I found the characters way too insane and crazy for my tastes. While Hollywood might be suffering from drugs, most colleges back then were still straight lace except perhaps for California. Did so many messed up individuals ever exist in a writing class? I rather doubt it. The professor would never have gotten tenure in my college. In fact, I distinctly liked one English professor who was kicked out during his first year of teaching.

I watched the movie yesterday on HBO. One scene confused me. Is Tobey's character James Leer gay? There is a scene at the professor's house, where Professor Grady opens a bedroom door and James Leer, and a male college student are in bed sleeping. No sex is shown, but the way James covers himself with the sheet as he attempts to wake up and get out of bed implied nudity to me.

A few of the buildings and businesses are gone or different but most are still around. There is also art, science, the aviary, the conservatory, all kinds of architecture, plenty of history, Kennywood is a great place some of the oldest and unique coasters in the country and world, it was the movie site for Adventureland. If you time it right you can take a vacation and be in a movie as an extra through Nancy Mosser casting, then check out the rest of Pittsburgh. If you are a movie buff it is a great place to vacation.

Just because brilliant ones as this particular one, goes unnoticed does not mean the ones that are noticed are faulty winners, believe me I don't think everything that is hyped or focused on is worth such attention. Me personally, I give credibility & respect for what is deserved regardless. I cannot allow my annoyance of, over hyped BS to disturb the actual facts, in this case worthy films.
