It seems like they hired a cleaner while making the retold; the wonders look cleaner now

@@legwhisperwhich is a shame, makes them look less realistic. A bit like rings of power costumes being all shiny vs those of LOTR looking actually worn.

@@Max-px5ym Well, it kinda makes sense. Why would wonders look worn out and dirty if they were just built? Like, we aren't watching them from a perspective of modern times, where reasonably they'd be decayed and dirty, but on their contemporary age of construction. The thing with armors may be different because i doubt they are the exact same sets of armor in both, but if we're talking about the same piece it would also make sense they're less shiny and more worn out in later times

También hay qué jugar, no solo ver. Tú como muchos, juzgan sin probar siquiera. Si te metieras a un par de partidas te darás cuenta de que todos los edificios sí que quedan en un estado de suciedad según el bioma, por ejemplo, cubiertos de nieve en zonas nevadas, con algo de musgo en zonas pantanosas, arena recubriendo ciertas áreas en desiertos, o hasta con manchas de ceniza cuando es en el inframundo, lo cual no es un detalle menor, y menos aún sabiendo que también se deterioran según lo dañados que estén.

@@CisnePelado I get your point about buildings, but still think it removes realism. As for lotr armors it just makes zero sense, ofc it's not the same armors, and ofc rings of power costumes/armors look far worse. Modern Hollywood also strives to remove any grain from textures, which naturally removes authenticity, makes everything too polished

The Retold ones are good. The only thing I don't like, is that the relieves on the Egyptian wonders are no longer colourful, just plain golden. Especially in case of the Sphinx.

i agree but also didnt like how they removed the crows from the odin tower and the smoke/clouds from the sun dial. those effects gave them a sense of gigantic size that you dont get with the proportionally miniscule building models we have in AoM. i also didnt like how they made some of the shiny marble like surfaces dull looking. prime examples are Atlantean road tiles, but you can see it in some of the buildings too, like the floor of the zeus wonder and walls of the oranos wonder

another thing i forgot to add, metal surfaces in the original AoM looked aged with a patina. retold's metal surfaces look brand new with no patina. i think atlanteans suffer the most from it

@@abbcc5996 Well, I think you cannot expect aged patina if you just finished building it.

@@ffarkasm true but if the patina was applied once you entered the mythical age it would make sense realistically as well, also in the campaign missions where the buildings are already there. although my main concern is that i think the shiny solid color metals look cartoonish

The Crows flying does exist, I literally played the game yesterday and there's was crows flying around

@@OBryanAguiar he is probably disabling some effects or something in his settings.. I added Odin Tower in Editor map and I saw the Crows flying around the wonder, you can check it out for yourself if you had the game

@@Omega-jg4oq True. Just tested it. One thing they did remove was the skeleton sprite after a unit death

It is funny, if those were real buildings, you could still feel that the left ones are old and made with past tech while new ones are made with modern tech.

The Greek wonders look like they have a general update and polish, the Egyptian wonders are less colorful, the Norse seem to be in the same boat as the Greeks as are the Atlanteans.

I think the colors looking more washed out now is because lights improved massively. Also it does make sense to go for a cleaner look since they aren’t ancient yet.

The graphics are better but the art design is worse, unfortunately this is a common problem in the game industry, the tech is getting better but the artists are getting worse.

They lack art direction, which means there's no style or thought on the design.

Thats because they made it without love and care. They even put black banner on EE version.

@@VITAS874 I mean I think they do care about the game (Forgotten Empires literally started out as a group of fans making a fan mod for AOE2) but they're not the original team & don't share the original vision, they love the game but don't necessarily understand what made it great. Either way I enjoy some of the new additions & I still have Extended Edition & the original physical copies so I'm good.

It is always so crazy to me how the older games limited by technology have better design than newer ones. They removed a lot of the character especially the tiny details.
