Would you have any tips to throw your hook kick more effectively? I throw a pretty good spinning hook kick but it’s powered by momentum and I can’t seem to generate any momentum for my front hook kick.

@@arthurperalta104 because the hook kick is very different from a roundhouse or spining hook kick, in one you are using your whole body meanwhile in the front hook kick is just the force from your leg colapsing. it is basicaly the same movement you do heel to butt walk. focus first on the speed, recovery and form then with repetition power will come slowly but steady. (also i cant even do a proper spining hook kick, kudos to you 😊)

I’m always using the lead leg round house. Sparred a guy not to long ago, through it to the head…cleanest head kick I’ve ever had. He later told me he never saw the kick coming and had no idea what hit him. Also got a buddy at my dojo who when I asked if he wanted to practice lead round on pads said “that doesn’t exist” and “that’s weak”. Handed him the shield and proved him wrong haha.

Just saw this video and it reminded me of some of the kick set ups I used to do when I did kickboxing ten plus years ago. I used to get into a lot of fights growing up and kinda learnt the psychology of opponents reactions to what I did, (I didn't do flashy tornado kicks, high head kicks back then lol, just my fists, knees and head butts...) I took that mindset into kickboxing and I couldn't believe how effective it was. My favourite set up by far was the fake right cross/left side kick tornado kick. So I'd get my opponent wary of my right cross or left side kick, (I'm left handed but was forced to train orthodox when I started ABA boxing,) and then when they started to move to my left, I'd then stomp forward, they'd move to my left with my back to them guard down so it gave them the mindset of being comfortable with their guard about to smash me up. I'd quickly with the stomp forward movement spin in a clockwise motion, right knee up, chamber my left leg knee up and then throwing like a whip tornado kick; I've accidentally knocked two people out practicing this in sparring to see if it actually worked and it did, (even going 20% practicing it showed how dangerous it was because with my leg coming in from left to right and them moving from right to left it ripped my sparring partner's head guard off his head lol,) I remember seeing Michael Page back in his freestyle karate days; what Michael said about doing his own thing made me want to do the same.

My favorite I learned from Bas. Hit 2 really strong body kicks and when you go for your 3rd same set up same motion and at the last second transition to the head and 90% of the time it's wide open.

I like using the spin back kick and the spin hook Kick as they are doing back leg round house they take the same amount of time but you get your head out of the way of their kick and you normally catch them falling into your kick adding power to your kick.

Based on his suggestion I've been developing my lead leg round kick. I've been very effective with throwing a jab to the head followed by a cross or jab to the body. Then as I come up, I lean back a little to sneak in a lead leg kick to the head.

i think i've got a pretty mean lead leg roundhouse (my left leg is way faster & more flexible than my right because I do a lot of checks against low kicks), but recently i'm learning to appreciate the spin thrust kick while exchanging punches in the pocket. i even got my sparring partner on the chin once when i missed 1 thrust kick and immediately fired off with the other leg when he started circling.

I only spent a about a week in my dad's karate classes in kindergarten. I like the horsequat and summo squat/walk for preparing. I like straight low teeps. Simple, quick effective, easier to be accurate, less chance of injury, with good level change for high strike mix combos. My father blew out his hips after years of karate. I'm not a fan of turning my back to an opponent unless the move is a knockout. Spinning kicks make it hard to be accurate and knock someone out. Head kicks do seem to be good sneak attacks but only if you are trained enough.

Is there a way to land in a more solid stance when doing the spin kick? Because I feel like it I would were to do the run or land with my back and butt facing them it leaves me open. (I do Muay Thai so idk if these could even correlate well).
@dominicfeira8037
@dominicfeira8037 Ай бұрын
Try it out of a longer karate like stance. You will be able to kick from further away. This will keep you safer and you will be able to generate more power because the kicking motion will be larger. After the kick, step down in a long stance again going away from your opponent. Once again establishing a "safer" distance. You can retreat quickly if needed from here too. Obviously if you land the kick well and you crush them, you can step forward towards your opponent to follow up. After turning, make sure you see your opponent so you know where they are. Corner of your eye is fine. You're just making sure they are still where you think they are. If they aren't, then abandon the kick. This kick makes more sense from a further away than typical Muay Thai distance. Teep to back kick is a nice combo. Use the teep to push them into back kick distance. After the teep step down into a longer stance and turn into the back kick. If you get your whole body moving into the back kick it will have tremendous power. I hope that wasn't too much.
