Butterflies are beautiful insects that begin their lives as small eggs and then caterpillars. After metamorphosis, the caterpillars emerge from their cocoon as butterflies.
Teaching children the different parts of a butterfly gives children a deeper understanding of nature and also lets children know that creatures are made of many parts, all working together.
In Montessori, we use small flashcards known as 'nomenclatures', which teach children all about the living world. Everyone loves butterflies, and teaching children all about butterflies is a wonderful part of Montessori education.
