Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventure #168!
Exploring a creepy old mining camp that looks to have been abandoned around 1990. Lots of rusty old machinery, mine shafts, adits and interesting items to poke around here!
Using clues from the archaeological record, I deduce that a married couple lived at this mine, and when they got to arguing, the wife would kick the husband out of the house to go down the road to his man cave/private saloon. Some time around 1990 they had their last argument, and left this place....and now there's no one left but the vultures, the rattlesnakes and the occasional F-18 flying low-level maneuvers. During the shooting of this video I was buzzed twice!
f 18, fighter jet fly by, buzzed by f 18, buzzed by fighter jet, ghost town, abandoned mine, abandoned house

I read a story in Reader's Digest about a sheep herder who got tired of the jets buzzing his herd of sheep and scattering them. It caused him a lot of trouble trying to get them gathered back up, plus they frightened the Hell out of his dogs. So he had enough of it and the next time they buzzed his herd he fired upon them with his 30-30 Winchester and actually hit one of the jets (damned good shooting). Well they found the bullet hole and the pilot recalled where he had been fired upon so they paid the shepherd a visit. He told them what was going on and that he would continue to shoot at any jet that was buzzing his flock. They reprimanded all the pilots and instructed them to cease and desist with buzzing ANY persons, livestock or cars outside designated target areas. The old shepherd wasn't charged with anything. Can you imagine if that happened now? I'm sure it wouldn't turn out so amiable. The SWAT team would have descended on the shepherd quickly for sure and he'd be lucky to escape with his life. WTF is wrong with all this?

Great tour. That drum with the holes (Perforated Drum) was a type of classifier. The smaller stuff fell through the holes into that chute as it rotated. Not common. Those were 3 stage high pressure Air Compressors and a yellow Receiver which sat in those 2 saddles behind the first compressor that stored the compressed air. A CD disc works as a nice battery free lightweight sun reflecting mirror for looking down shafts. That short tunnel ended at the Solid boulders. Too tough to move or crack. I bet you could catch a ride in one of those F-18's....

Been watching your videos last couple days and at the mining sites them barrels with the holes are called Trommels, they wash all the ore off the big rocks that fall off the end and wash the smaller rocks and dirt down through the holes and across Sluices to get the gold bearing concentrates which then would be panned or separated to get the fine gold ! Loving your videos....keep up the great work !

How does a place like that fall into disrepair after it's abandoned? It would be interesting if there were a time-lapse video of that process, starting from the day the last dwellers there left until the present day. If only walls could speak.

Down the Road to Golden Cactus Ghost town museum in the former Pearsonville CA is a neat place (maybe only for me) to visit and see some history. On the outer east road just north of the shell station and south of the tow yard to the east are the ruins of an old homestead which I heard about from my Grandfather way back before he died. I am somehow related to the roads namesake the the area but have not been there in almost 40 years to follow up with any relatives anyway keep on keeping on Semper Fi

I'm pretty sure this is a Placer gold mine Placer is when they dig into the dirt load is when they dig into the Rock but looking at the equipment that's used for gold mining not copper although many gold mines produce more than one type of metal so that could have been copper production in the area as well I'd like to take my detector and swing it around that area see if there are any nuggets big enough to sound off
@kurtj.hoffmanmining7612
@kurtj.hoffmanmining7612 6 жыл бұрын
It is a lode mine. The difference doesn't have to do with dirt or rock. It has to do with how the deposit was made. A placer mine is in a stream bed or old stream bed, or river, creek, etc.
@nomaddaze
@nomaddaze 6 жыл бұрын
Kurt J. Hoffman Mining your description of the two and the differences is spot-on but this is still a Placer mine go to exactly 10 minutes in on the video and look at the hole she's filming inside of. that's not hard rock that's tightly-packed old River material you can see the River Rocks strewn throughout.... Placer mining can still involve Drilling down or into the side of a mountain just like load mining it's just instead of going through hard rock following an ore streak your drift mining into hard-packed old water washed material following the areas where it collected or so you hope........... although one of the ones shafts that was sealed look like it may have been cut into Hard Rock load mining

Springs and I saw a small dot coming towards me, as I looked out the windshield of the Camaro I saw it was an A-10 flying 50 above the ground right down the center of the median. My house was way south in that two horse shit hole and there was nothing but BLM land and the dry lake until you crossed into California. The A-10's used to play out there a lot.

The "hopper" is called a "Trommel" for classifying material down to the size of the holes in the perforated drum. Larger material rolls out the end of the rotating drum, where the smaller material falls through the holes and is guided by the chute underneath the trommel into a separate container for processing. The other device is a radial compressor to pump compressed air into the mine to operate drills to bore blasting holes, Engine sitting by it self is a 1963 (C3AE) 170 cubic inch Ford 6 cylinder :)
