+seoul hijabi first of all, thank you so much! And, I'm really happy you're looking into going to Thailand! In my experience, Thai people are extremely understanding and supportive of different religions. When I first went to my host family's house, they actually assumed that I didn't want to participate in anything related to Buddhism, because they thought they would be disrespecting my religion (I told them that wasn't the case, though). You might actually find this surprising, but Muslim is the second most practiced religion in Thailand (even though it's only 4.9%, considering Buddhism is the official religion, that's actually a very high percentage), and I've gone to many towns that have more mosques than buddhist temples. So, considering that, I would say you wouldn't have a problem interacting with Thai people, and making friends :) Sorry, this is so long, but I thought it needed a long answer :P

I'm so glad to hear that :) thank you so much! I think if you go, you won't experience a problem with school either, you might have to get used to the Buddhist chanting at morning announcements, but it's just part of exchange. I hope everything works out for you!!

Please I need a answer: how early do you have to sign up for exchange student 1 year or 2 years before? And how do you get the country you want
@brennahc20038 жыл бұрын
You need to explore websites and programs and see which one offers the country of your choice. They usually only accept applications 6-8 months beforehand, and that's your only chance because they can't guarantee you a spot early, but they almost always require 6 months to get everything set up and in line. I am currently planning a semester abroad over a year and a half away in Ireland, and I am already talking to coordinators online to see what works best for me. I cannot apply until next summer, but this gives me plenty of time to prepare, accumulate things I need, save money, construct my portfolio, etc. Best of luck!!

How long do you usually pack for? Like 3 months or the full 10? I'm going to Germany in my Sophmore year, so I really want to be prepared : )
@StephanieLTravels9 жыл бұрын
Kicker Nyc I usually pack enough for two weeks or less. It's kind of the standard of what people say to do. But less is always better, because you'll be buying a lot of stuff over there, most likely :)
@ImPanChan9 жыл бұрын
Quick question with the power adapter! So, I have a laptop that has a 3 prong, and Japan has a two prong. I'm going to Japan for 6 weeks for an exchange, will my computer survive the adaptor? Or should I just rarely ever touch my computer while over there?
@StephanieLTravels9 жыл бұрын
+Awkward Artist No, that should be fine. I have the same issue with my computer over here, and I've been going off a 3-to-2 prong adapter for six months here, and 10 months in Thailand before. So, you'll be more than fine :)

For clothes, how many pairs of shirts and pants would you say for a 2 month trip. I'm Australian and I'm planning on going to Canada for 2 months.
@StephanieLTravels8 жыл бұрын
+PurpleLavenderWitch I'm not exactly sure, since I haven't done a two month trip before, but I'd think pack enough clothing for 1-1.5 weeks without washing your clothes, and I'd think that would be fine.

What about feminine hygiene items? Did you have to pack enough for the whole time or could you buy things over there?
@StephanieLTravels9 жыл бұрын
+jacqui dyson Kind of depends on where you're going to be and you're personal preference. In my city, pads were easily found, but I did bring a whole year supply of tampons and midol, and it was definitely worth it for me. Try to find a female rotex who's lived near where you're going to be, that's how I knew all of that before going over there :)

This is probably tmi, but how did you deal with your time of the month? Like was it awkward around your host family? Or did you have trouble with it?
@StephanieLTravels7 жыл бұрын
I honestly didn't have really any problems with this. I found it to be similar to the experience I had growing up, since it's a natural occurrence anywhere you go in the world.

What are good gifts for a host family?
@StephanieLTravels8 жыл бұрын
I talk about it a little bit in this video, but unfortunately, I'm not that good at gift ideas. The best thing I can suggest is talking to someone who's gone to your host country and find out what people there seem to like the best.

Do you have any tips for the interview I have to do to become an exchange student?
@StephanieLTravels7 жыл бұрын
It honestly depends on the program that you go through. The program I went through requires you to go through several different interviews. The biggest advice for all of them, though are just to not be nervous and be outgoing. Most of these interviews are just to see how you react to be being put on the spot or how you deal with uncomfortable situations.
