The Man in the Box was a man named Doc. He lived in a cardboard box in downtown Seattle. He managed to get a job at a local club setting up for shows. One weekend they were setting up a showcase for labels to see the local music scene. Doc got to talking to a lady from a label. They hit it off and she offered him a job. The last they saw of Doc was him heading to LA to work for the label. True story. My husband knew Doc well.

I was in rehab with Lane Staley, lead singer. In Monroe , Washington State. Valley General Hospital. Literally this video came out on MTV, their first video, when we were in rehab together. He was my roommate, nice , funny, quiet guy. I was young, 18, so I never hooked up with the band after. It was my first fascination with heroin, he never introduced it to me but I left there with the thought in my mind watching his struggles. That's how cunning baffling and powerful it is. To fascinate about a thing that will more then kill you. I Ended up homeless 5 years later and would see him on the streets in the U-District, Seattle, in his last days, literally. He had a condo off 46th ave, I didn't, I was in a tent. We were going down bad. But for the grace of God there went I. I got it together and have built a life. Stay away from drugs and find your hidden talents. Everyone has a gift for something inside them. Don't waste your time as a youth. It brings me to tears to see the millennials discover all the music I grew up on. It was truly a special, special time.
