True to a point. Yes it was written in response to the rumor of Ann and Nancy being lovers. But, as per an interview with the Wilson sisters, it was written after being confronted backstage and learning of the rumor from someone who wanted an interview but got butthurt that they had to wait and let the cat out of the bag.

Worked offshore oil for 30 years. We'd have 6 and 7 foot barracudas swimming under the shade of the rig. We never wore shiny things because if there was more than one barracuda, they'll strike quick to keep the other Bacaruda (as we called them) could get it. They had a mouth about 10 inches long with nothing but teeth. We could catch them with a spoon on a rope. But not the last one. He finally figured out there was no more competition. Lyrics are based on a scuzzy radio interviewer that attempted to make it sound like Ann and her sister were, well, having intimacy with each other. Ann was so angry, she wrote the song that same evening. The Barracuda represents the scuzzy interviewer, "lying so low in the weeds, waiting to ambush me". I read that the guitar riff is "borrowed" from the band, Nazareth, after Heart opened/or played with them at a concert.

The transition into the next song on the studio album is worth going back and listening to. It goes from hard rock zeppelin-esque driving banger to one of the most beautiful acoustic vibes. The two tracks together show the full depth of the talent

Three best female singers of that era: Annie Wilson of Heart, Linda Ronstadt, Annie Haslam of Renaissance.

When you see heart in concert, you realise that nancys voice is as amazing as annes. And then you realise that Anne can also play guitar like a pro. Their music videos never showed this. Both those girls are incredibly multi talented.. if Nancy wasn't playing with her sister she could have been an incredible lead singer her damn self.. and Anne could have played guitar in a band. Yet we always think mistbof the one singing and the one playing.
