Worked offshore oil for 30 years. We'd have 6 and 7 foot barracudas swimming under the shade of the rig. We never wore shiny things because if there was more than one barracuda, they'll strike quick to keep the other Bacaruda (as we called them) could get it. They had a mouth about 10 inches long with nothing but teeth. We could catch them with a spoon on a rope. But not the last one. He finally figured out there was no more competition. Sharks didn't scare us, Barracudas did.

Lyrics are based on a scuzzy radio interviewer that attempted to make it sound like Ann and her sister were, well, having intimacy with each other. Ann was so angry, she wrote the song that same evening. The Barracuda represents the scuzzy interviewer, "lying so low in the weeds, waiting to ambush me". I read that the guitar riff is "borrowed" from the band, Nazareth, after Heart opened/or played with them at a concert.
