💬 Well, here it is FINALLY! I have to say, I was mentally preparing myself to have to do this one completely over from scratch. I got pretty lucky with Seagate offering to recover my data. (Thanks Seagate!). This one was very difficult because it was so long and intricate. I truly hope I did it justice. The "powersoak" that Tom used for this record was a large variable resistor from a theater lighting system.

Tom Sholtz started this all in a basement studio. He played all parts of these songs and mixed and cut. He actually had the first album almost complete before the band was actually formed. Pure genius and a little luck.
@neechee51503 ай бұрын
@joepatriot6431 Not quite. Tom did not play all of the instrument tracks on this record. First Tom does not play a single drum track on this record and the record is much better off for this fact. All drum tracks are played by Sib exception for one, and Jim Masdea plays drums on that track Barry is playing electric rhythm guitars on Foreplay, Long Time and Let Me Take You Home Tonight. Barry plays the lead guitar solos on Long Time and he plays lead and slide guitar on Let Me Take You Home. Fran plays bass on Foreplay and Let Me Take You Home. Brad plays acoustic 12 string on Let Me Take You Home which he also wrote. These facts came out in the litigation between Tom and Barry. All of Brads vocals were recorded at two studios in LA by producer John Boylan, and this record was mixed at Westlake Studios by producer John Boylan, engineer Warren Dewey and Tom with assistance from Steve Hodge.

And to think this guy did all the instruments BY HIMSELF, and only hired a backing band when on tour
@neechee51503 ай бұрын
@nyghtmareinmi This is patently false. First off as documented in the liner notes of every copy of this record, Sib plays drums on every track on this record except one. Jim Masdea plays drums on Rock and Rollband. Barry plays electric rhythm guitar on Foreplay, Long Time and Let Me Take You Home. Barry plays all of the lead guitar solos on Long Time as well as the huge power chords. Barry plays lead and slide guitar on Let Me Take You Home which was written Brad. Fran plays bass on Foreplay and Let Me Take You Home. Brad plays acoustic guitar on Let Me Take You Home which was recorded at The Record Plant LA by the band as pictured on the back of the record. The band was formed before the record released.

@@neechee5150 Having recorded nearly all of the band’s demos in his basement by himself through overdubs (only the drums and Brad Delp’s vocals weren’t recorded by Scholz), Scholz decided he wanted to adopt the same technique to record the album proper.
@nyghtmareinmi3 ай бұрын
@@neechee5150 In order to achieve this, Scholz paired up with Epic-approved producer John Boylan and concocted an elaborate ruse: Boylan would meet with Epic representatives to assure them that the album was going well and being recorded in Los Angeles. In reality, Scholz was recording the album largely on his own in his basement studio in Boston.
@neechee51503 ай бұрын
@@nyghtmareinmi There is something that Tom continues to leave out of the narrative. When Tom submitted the drum tracks for the record, Boylan rejected them because they were too amateurish to use on the record. To remedy this deficit, Boylan hired LA engineer Paul Grupp to go to Toms home studio to tutor him on how to record acoustic instruments properly as well as proper mic technique. Boylan then gave Tom a directive to re-record all drum tracks and to rerecord the acoustic instrument tracks using the skills and knowledge gained from Grupp. Tom did in fact record the drum tracks that we hear on the record whether is is Sib playing the track or JIm Masdea on Rock and Roll Band. As for who played on what tracks the information in my previous post is confirmed as fact in legal documents involved in the lawsuits between Tom and Barry. Tom had to tell the truth this time around, and he made those statements under oath. These facts are also further documented as the facts and truth by Tom himself in the post litigation liner notes of the 2006 Scholz (not Sony) remaster of the debut Boston record. The entire song Let Me Take You Home which was written by Brad was recorded at The Record Plant LA by the band as pictured on the back of the record. Sans the vocals to Let Me Take You Home, Brads vocals were recorded by Boylan at Capital Studios Studio C. These facts are all documented in the Mix Magazine interview of producer John Boylan who was the architect and mastermind of the "ruse" to keep Epic execs at bay while Tom worked on the tracks that he submitted for the record. These facts are also documented in the legal documents pertaining to the lawsuits that I mentioned and in the post litigation liner notes of the Scholz (not Sony) 2006 remaster of the debut Boston record.
