AM thanks for giving some nourishment to Tina and Teeny. I hope it helps the baby. Teeny does look stressed out and Tina doesn’t appear to want her baby back. Emily’s twins, Breeze and Bambi must be exhausting. What fabulous stories you give us AM.

Regardless of what the outcome for this baby it is obvious that Tenny is trying her best she obviously cares for him very much. She has taken on a job that is much bigger than herself for she has never been a mother before and has never had this much time with a baby. She is doing what instinctively comes natural to them . Obvious i want nothing more than for this precious baby boy to survive and thrive, but i know that his chances are slim unless Teeny is able to produce nutritional milk for him . I know it has happened in other primates but i don't think it happens as often as we would wish for. Im trying to stay optimistic for this baby, but my gut tells me to not get my hopes to high. I do hope Tina recovers from her illness. We do know now for certain Teeny will be an amazing mother. I hate seeing those cages, please Teeny don't go inside

That baby is just so content nursing on Teeny. It seems she may be miraculously that she is producing milk. God works in mysterious ways. If she was left with her sister maybe this would have happened with her. It can happen...as I said with gorilla foster mom her in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. She is now fostering second child in past 3 years without giving birth and is producing milk for them.😮❤

It can happen, but it's rare. The case in Cleveland is the exception, not the rule. Almost all adopted babies have to be bottle fed. Jameela is still getting bottle supplements along with nursing from Freddie. Freddie, however, is a super mom! She started spontaneously lactating when she adopted Kayembe 2 years ago from another troop member who rejected him at birth. Freddie just turned 50, can not have babies herself anymore, is rasing, and NURSING 2. Absolute Rockstar!

​@@faeriefire99I think they have to have the hormones present to lactate, which means of breeding age. This is more likely a case of bodily fluids from constantly being irritated through suckling, not actual milk. Think a scraped knee that oozes but doesn't bleed.

Teeny looks stressed out and tired but doing her best. The baby has ripped out a lot of her hair on the sides. It’s making it harder for him to cling properly. The baby looks weaker and frustrated but is hanging on to life. But for how long I think unless he starts eating solids it isn’t going to end well. He’s getting something from Teeny but it obviously isn’t enough from his cries. Look how long Teensy lasted without the proper nutrients.

Emily’s babies, is it personality? One is outgoing, Bambi, the other is shy/selfish/or greedy for extra milk? Clearly, both are healthy & loved. It will be interesting to see Emily put up clear milk bar hours as Breeze will be tough to wean. Bambi is nearly weaned already!!! Fascinating. ❤

Yes it’s amazing that Teeny has helped keep her brother alive but if you take a step back and look, the baby is on a steep decline. It’s barely hanging on, it has poor grip strength (one of the obvious signs of decline in a baby). The eyes are shrunken, this is lack of proper hydration. The skin isn’t elastic, another condition of poor hydration. And folks, that doesn’t even cover being starved, lack of nutrition. The baby doesn’t have full 24/7 access to a milk supply which babies must have at this age. I’m not getting my hopes up again this year only to be crushed when the baby dies (which has happened the last 3 years). Especially Teensy who really broke my heart last season.

AM, I appreciate your concern for the infant monkey, but soy milk is not nutritionally adequate for a mammalian baby. It needs goat milk with some supplementary vitamins and minerals added.

Yes I believe Teeny is mom in baby boys eyes and in Tina's as well. I knew she wouldn't take him back. Edit: I do believe the baby doesn't have long though. He looking very weak. He should be wanting to toddle like the other little ones. With him having teeth he needs some fruit. Juicy fruit will help hydrate him as well. It would take a dedicated feeder to show up daily though. I believe any way.

Bambi is a little dynamo, only stopping for quick top-ups now and again. She should be a snap to wean. Breeze, on the other hand, is kind of a lump. He acts like his lips are super glued to Emily's left teat. Those two are polar opposites in every way!

Bambi is learning early on being on her own. Emily is a natural pro as she shows an ability to manage her brood. I see Emily as a future baby machine that will produce strong troop members, she was born to be a mom.

Have anyone actually seen the baby suckle on teeny? Yes the kids obviously latched on, but is he suckling? A lot of people are saying teeny's lactating. Don't really understand how teeny can be lactating. She's never been pregnant much less birthed a baby. Nearly all babies will latch on and not suckle, just a pacifier. This boy is getting the sunken in eyes very pronounced now. Dehydration. He's flailing about with his arms. Uncoordinated. Very slow to grab on with hands and feet. IMO this baby isn't long for this world.

It's possible Teeny started producing and releasing enough oxytocin and prolactin due to the baby sucking on her. The milk wouldn't be very nutritious though. He's obviously getting something or he'd be dead by now imo. How long her watery milk can sustain him is anyone's guess but I agree I don't think he will be here long. But who knows, we all could be in for a surprise just like Teeny surprised us when she was a baby. I didn't think she would live but here she is.

And yes, there has to be something the baby is getting, nutrition wise. Tina is far more confident these days. To eat out in the open. Instead of running in fear for cover the moment she gets food. Or to simply wait out in the shadows for her turn only to find only specks. Maybe the greater intake of food will show with more milk. Even if just a bit more. But the problem I see with Tina getting more food is that she now produces bigger babies. Who require more milk to support that size. Good luck Tina.

I still can't believe that as intelligent as these animals are, they don't seem to understand that babies need milk. I'm not even sure if the mothers themselves know it or if they only nurse to prevent their breasts from getting swollen and sore. But then I see in some cases female monkeys "asking" a kidnapper to let them nurse the baby. It hardly ever works. So I guess they do know babies need food and just don't care? No hate for these confusing little critters. I just wish I could understand what goes through their minds. Seeing this baby suffer is driving me mad, but I know there's nothing you can do. Teeny has to be allowing some female to nurse it, just not enough.

I think it's more of an instinct to let a baby nurse rather than actually knowing they need milk. I think it's more like it's the baby that knows it needs milk. Babies are born with a strong sucking reflex and with a strong sense of smell which helps them find the nipple when newborn. That's why they root the first few days. With Teeny, the baby had that strong sucking reflex so latched onto her nipple which Teeny allowed even though she did not have milk. Since she probably took the baby within a few hours after birth and since Teeny has some of Tina's scent on her, the baby didn't know his sister was not his mother. All he knew was he needed to suckle. It's possible that suckling caused Teeny to produce and release prolactin and oxytocin which produced some milk. It does appear he is getting milk from her or someone else. He seems pretty alert though is getting weak. Nursing releases oxytocin which not only causes milk to drop but it also is calming to both mom and baby. Kind of a feel good hormone. Besides the instinct to nurse, that may be a reason moms want to nurse and a reason a lot of young female kidnappers have no desire to even let a baby suckle on them. They don't have enough of the hormone present. Just my theory anyway.

It's like 2 plus 2 is adding up to be 3.99. 🤣 It takes several months for human women to lactate through stimulation alone, but then monkeys do everything faster... pregnancy, weaning, aging, etc. What made Teeny allow the baby to nurse at all? It's childbirth that causes the release of oxytocin, and nursing keeps it going (to oversimplify it.) Yet Teeny has been allowing it to suckle, and it can't have been comfortable for her. But then the foster monkey moms in the Vervet Forest allow their adopted babies to nurse, and most of those monkeys have never given birth. The caregivers say the moms don't lactate, so that not the reason. Maybe they, and Teeny, consider the babies theirs and that's just what a mother does. We'll never know for sure.

@@hikkchik I agree. It's hard to say for sure. I know elephants are known to allow an orphan to suckle and sometimes start producing milk. I had a llama that would allow other babies to suckle her even when she had no milk and those babies did have moms they nursed from. Never could figure that out other than she was an older female and had a strong motherly instinct and she missed having babies. Oxytocin isn't just released during childbirth. It's responsible for sexual feelings (love hormone), it helps form bonds and relationships, it calms stress and anxiety and a bunch more. Maybe it's the relationship part that makes her do what she is doing? Perhaps that's what is increasing her maternal instincts which may increase and release oxytocin and prolactin when the baby suckles? Idk. A lot of what ifs. It would be nice to know if she is producing anything but of course that can't be done. Not sure if you know the monkey Elpida. She is young and kidnapped a baby and allowed it to suckle on her. Mom got the baby back though. Elpida went through starvation. Was her tenderness to the baby due to what she went through? Much like Teeny was so hungry when a baby. Perhaps she understands and/or remembers what she went through more than we realize? An in depth study would be great.

@@gigicostlow4414 You talking about your llama reminded me of what three of my kittens went through when they were kittens. I had to re-home their mother when they were 7 weeks old due to her suddenly becoming aggressive and constantly attacking my other cats that she had always gotten along with. I had intended to get her and the babies into a rescue anyway but hadn't found one. So I had to give the mother to an elderly lady whose cat had just passed. My brother had already adopted one of her kittens, so that left me with three little females. They weren't completely weaned, but they had been eating solid food for a while. After their mother was gone, they started nursing on each other, and even themselves. This went on until they were 5, 6 months old, when they started growing out of it. I never tried to make them stop because I read online that it could make them stop grooming themselves. I still have two of them; they're 3nyears old now. One of them overgrooms herself to the point where she's literally half bald. Nothing the vet has suggested has worked to make her stop. The other is terrified of everything. My son's boots, me picking up a book, shirts on a hanger, me putting on a shirt, etc etc. Both are very clingy cats. They were born in my closet, have never been abused or even heard a raised voice. But obviously some trauma was caused by losing their mother so suddenly. I said all that to say it's very likely you're right about Teeny remembering what she went through. Monkeys are much more intelligent than cats after all, and it's obvious something left a mark on my poor babies. They were very confident, brave kittens before losing their mom. Another little kitten story--I fostered an 8 week old male kitten, and he would catch my large male cat in a deep sleep and suckle on him. 🤣 My male was always so confused when he woke up and found the kitten using him as a pacifier. He's a very laid back hippie of a cat, so he never swatted the little one, just got up and moved away from him. I had 2 females, but the kitten chose the male to nurse from.

Seeing a perfectly viable, large baby getting weaker is hard to see. Looking at it try and suckle from Teeny is even harder. I think baby knows Teeny is not its mother by the little cries. The whole thing is so troublesome to me and hard to watch. Teeny's little face says it all. Her fur is falling out and she looks stressed out. That baby is a big one, wouldn't have survived this long without being strong to begin with.

Chances are he has imprinted on Teeny. She was likely by Tina’s side when he was born and since Tina was so unwell, she scooped up baby before baby could imprint on her.

It looks like Breeze bit Emily, or something made her uncomfortable. Maybe if he starts teething, Bambi will have more time at the milk bar if Emily doesn’t want her nipples to become teething rings. It must be hard to make milk for two babies already. Hopefully they will start getting some soft fruit and other soft small stuff so she can still manage.

No, a baby would be fussing and struggling to get away if he wasn’t getting anything at all. If that is truly Tina’s baby then either Tina is occasionally nursing the baby or Teeny is allolactating which is very unusual in macaques. But humans can occasionally do it. Sometimes mothers who adopt can lactate but it’s a hard uphill battle to establish an adequate milk supply.

Yes, they suckle for comfort. The orphans at the Vervet Monkey Foundation suckle their foster moms, and they don't have any milk. They'll even suck another baby's ear for comfort for hours before they get adopted by a foster monkey mom, and the human caregivers can't make them stop.

The difference between Bo and Teeny is that Bo was sterilized and Teeny is not. Bo didn't know or understand why she wasn't having babies of her own. Teeny is trying to help her mom but has quite come of age herself to have babies but she is almost there. Teeny is getting the job done and doesn't need human help, she is getting skittish now because of the more intense scrutiny by the humans. She is creeped out by it and just trying to blend in. I think AM is figuring this out too. You can see the baby in the video making swallowing motions while nursing. Teeny is likely producing milk for this baby, which is why the baby hasn't dehydrated and died before now. She should be given her space

Im glad Nora skipped this year i think that allowed Nora to focus on celessa a little bit and help keep her a little more calm. Between Nan and Nora both it must have helped some. Maybe Nora now realizes how her own mother has helped her. Probably wishful thinking on my part since monkeys do not think in the same terms as we do. But then again we really don't know how deeply there thought process is

There is no way Teeny at her age, never having an infant of her own, has the hormones or the body fat index to produce more than a weak fluid at best, & she won't be able to sustain even that for long. If this infant doesn't get back to Tina - IF she still has milk & IF she is willing to nurse him - he is not going to make it. Teeny is not going to give him up willingly. Tina doesn't act like she is trying to take him back, so... Under the circumstances, everyone should probably prepare themselves for another Teensy situation. Emily looks worn out too. Breeze was pinching the nipple he was suckling with impatience like it wasn't giving him what he wanted. Emily moving Bambi away with her arm was telling. The dark nipple is sore.

It's a beautiful piece. It's the 4th movement of Beethoven's 9th symphony, the last he wrote, and is a choral composition written by what was considered a symphony composer, and was kind of ground breaking, as this was not done before. Beethoven wrote it as an "ode" to King Friedrich 2 of Germany. Beethoven repeatedly demonstrated that one does not have to be confined to a particular style or formula, and that kind of out of the box thinking was what made him such a genius just as much writing such beautiful and moving music, even being hearing impaired, and really influenced so many people by setting them free from their imagined constraints. I know you didn't ask, and that may read like a wiki entry, but no, just facts mixed with a bit of why I think he had and still has such a massive impact on people and music still to this day, 200 years later, exactly (was written from 1822 to 1824).

I doubt that teeny isn't lactating she is old enough and has gone into heat and its been shown several times before that they will start to lactate due to hormones when in need of it to care for a baby that wasn't their own the baby also would've already died its been over a week and the baby isn't throwing a fit which it would as seen many times before if it tried to suckle and wasn't getting milk

The baby for sure looks weak. He had a hard time holding onto her as she was walking. Poor baby, so sad. Mr AM are you going to ever tell us the story about Vivy? It has been a long long time now since you hinted at her and Joys mom still maybe being alive and their disappearance having to do with that other troop. I have been binge watching you, monkeys inc & monkey life all summer. I will always recall this past summer as "Monkey Summer" What I don't recall is an episode where you showed an elderly fostor Mom and mentioned a lady in her 90's possibly Mrs. Chin that had been coming for years. It's just the color of the skin. I have seen some with 2 pink ones (most common), some with 2 dark colored ones and some with 1 of each. Doesn't affect lactation at all.

Do you think teeny recalls the desperation and hunger of her infancy and is doing this to possibly avert the same for her sibling? I am not prepared to say she is baby crazed and it just is happening to work out. All of the creatures on this planet are far more intelligent than we give them credit for and they learn so much faster than humans it's even more convincing that she has worked this out. Wonders do indeed, just happen.

Teeny is feeling increased stress from all the close followings from the humans, which has increased in stalking behavior since this baby appeared. She is trying to blend in and the baby is tired but she has to keep moving because when she stops the humans keep getting closer to film her.

It is so sad that Tina's baby started off at a disadvantage because she doesn't have nutrient rich milk, and now with Teeny he is lucky to just get enough fluids so he doesn't dehydrate. Even if Tina does nurse him he isn't getting what he needs. I was thinking the same thing about the boxed milk. They usually rip the side, and it spills all over them. I wish you could just put milk on a tray or plate so the baby could just drink it while teeny drank, but the rest of the troop would make that hard. I wish there was a way to get him baby formula for nutrition. Even fruit that has juice so it drips on her like Water melon might be good. Bambi is so cute, but her brother is a milk hog. Lol I hope she eats when meals on wheels comes. Maybe bring a extra box for her too. It such a beautiful thing you all do feeding, and looking out for the monkeys. They are lucky you guys are there to help them. Thank you for sharing them with us.

Mangos would be even better since they have more nutrition than watermelons and are easier to carry. Not only is there a lot of juice but the baby may be able to get a few bites from it either while she is holding it or from the scraps on the ground. There are always lots of scraps with mangos. I'm not a fan of feeding them fruit with a high sugar content but right now this little boy needs whatever he can get even if it's bread crumbs.

Human formula is terrible for monkeys. That poor baby would have massive diarrhea which would dehydrate him.

@@gsmith6026 monkeys have a hard time digesting dairy because it causes them indigestion, gas, bloating, diarrhea. However they do have baby formula called primalac for rescued baby monkeys. They also recommend Similac baby formula for baby monkeys. My thought was try and get as much nutrients into the baby. Especially if all it has is milk dripped on his sisters fur to lick up. It would be a better option then just milk which does hurt their stomach. Moms milk is nutrient poor so even if this baby does nurse it is at a disadvantage. I always try to do research before I comment if I'm suggesting something which I did.

Yes it’s sad & heartbreaking, but that’s the way Mother Nature works; & there’s absolutely nothing anyone can do abt it, except trying to stave it off for a while. In the end Mother Nature will win every single time. For all we know (several weeks into the future from the filming), Teeny may already be dead & discarded. People here lose sight of the fact, letting their emotions take over; these are wild animals, & wild animals young & old die in Nature. But that’s how Mother Nature works to keep the monkey population relatively in check. 60% of babies never reach their first birthday for whatever reason, & only 10% of males make it to full adulthood. That’s the way of the world.

They are smart in many ways, but they are animals who go by instinct. If Teeny were to understand that you are trying to help her baby brother, she would let you. But her instinct is to ‘protect’ that baby even when she may not the milk, the nutrients, to feed him. She knows you, she knows she has been favored by familiar feeders. Even still, you have to be careful as to not getting her in trouble w/the others due to hierarchy, status, etc.

I think that maybe Tina never even laid a hand on her newborn! We all know Tina had a hard delivery with that big of a baby, so when Tina finally delivered, she was completely exhausted and of course, Teeny was right there for it all, and Teeny grabbed the baby when he came out! That would explain a few things!

Everything these days are pretty much disposable unfortunately. My camera broke, all the repair shut down, company told me it's cheaper to by new one. Just like our tvs and appliances

I don't know what brand of lens he has but I know with one of mine that the motor was going out on, I could get a new one for a few hundred dollars (usd) more than it would cost to have it repaired. He mentioned after 6 months. If he bought it new 6 months ago, it should still be under warranty and he should be able to get it fixed or replaced for free. Always a bummer when something happens with our cameras.

It should not be so concerning since a: the situation is resolved by now, one way or another almost certainly and 2: the baby is guaranteed to NOT get what he needs from Tina, since she is not able to provide that, and never has been. I think Tina was in way worse shape than is being realized, and she will follow the path nature intended for her, meaning she would abandon the baby to save her own life and the chance to continue to reproduce, rather than possibly kill herself with the effort of attempting to save the baby, and that way pretty much guaranteeing the infant's death as well as her own. I promise, Tina knows better than us how to live her life. Instead, be grateful to witness the beauty of nature and joyful for tiny, teeny, this infant, and Tina and their opportunity to live mostly as nature intended, and not some dystopian monkey hell like the ones in the other places Mr am mentions, regardless of the outcome.

Even if tina took the baby back , with her record of baby deaths , due to bad milk supply, he will still die, tinas always found it hard to keep her baby alive, at least teeny is trying to help her brother, i just hope he starts eating little crumbs of food soon, now hes got teeth, anyway you look at this situation, there's a good chance this baby of tina will not live much longer, i really hope I'm wrong .
