She reads all the paperwork prior to stepping into court, I am sure she knew about the triple damage and would have awarded it if she felt it was necessary. I think Miss Thing ruined that by acting up, so all she got was the basic costs she was owed.

I dont think the judge would let this interfere in her verdict. Even if she was annoyed by that woman, it would be wrong to use it as a reason to apply justice. As a judge, you must be able to be neutral and logical, even if annoyed, so the verdict must be legally correct and rational.

She makes her own rules according to what she thinks is fair.... and that includes the personalities of the people in front of her. There was no reason to award the plaintiff triple damage just because it's allowed.... JJ would expect her to prove that the defendant cost her that much in damages first. The defendant however was clearly trying to get away without paying, and in those circumstances JJ might have awarded the plaintiff triple damages just to make a point against a shady defendant. But the plaintiff ruined that by acting for the cameras and annoying the judge. So she only got what she was owed, which was a fair and just verdict - so it was legally correct and rational, as you say. I just think she ruined her chance to get something more, because the law provided an opportunity for that to happen.

No triple damages only applies to theft and is at the discretion of the law, it's not applicable here. JJ doesn't make up her own rules, she follows the law albeit she has some discretion within reason. If the triple damages rule applied she'd have to use it, it doesn't apply. The plaintiff got what she deserved and was made whole. JJ frowns upon people using the courts to enrich themselves and she doesn't take into account personalities except to rule in areas of "he said she said" so for example if a litigant cannot control themselves in court but then tells her they were calm and not the aggressor in a situation then she may use their behaviour in court as a way to determine what actually happened but even if they were the aggressor if they had damages and were entitled to compensation they'd get it. I've seen her tell someone that the person is a piece of work but unfortunately they have no case. She follows the law that's why she's been at the top for years.

The other thing is words have meaning, especially in law, and misuse of words or the wrong words can result in things unintended. Treble is the actual legal word for treble damages. Tripling the damages is what treble damages does, however is only triples the result. You could triple damages and add it to the damages, but treble specifically doesn't do that. So words matter and using them correctly does too.
