Thanks so much for doing the giveaway. I am subscribed. I have learn so much about making arrows. I'm crazy and have tried to make my shafts as well from birch. I got the wood from a place called Sensenich where I used to work. They make wooden propellers. I am having problems after hand planing the square stock round getting them smooth. I'm guessing you may not know how to do that as it looks like you get all your shafts pre done. All these other tips though are awesome and will really help my arrows look amazing. Thanks.

I have been scratching my head with your swirl pattern for months on Instagram. Thanks for sharing all your trade secrets! Beautiful arrows. Question for ya, do you tune wood shafts similar to carbon, or are they less susceptible to length cutting and/or point weight?
@addictivearchery1123
@addictivearchery1123 6 жыл бұрын
The same concepts apply but I can get you close enough on spine that some minor changes to your brace height or changing the thickness of your side plate material is all that is needed. Carbon arrows have a very big gap in spine and that why people struggle with finding the right length and or having to change point weight. As soon as I'm done with this series I'll make a video on dynamic spine and arrow tuning. Thanks for watching.
@volanteaggie
@volanteaggie 6 жыл бұрын
That would be great! There are lots of tuning videos but I don't think any of them show tuning a wood arrow.
@tradbownewbie1302

Couple of questions! Do arrows have to be dipped in order to be crowned? Can the crown just be hand pained on the way you pained on the stain in previous video? Also, if a bare shaft was stained first, can it be crowned or does there need to be a clear coat in between? Thanks!
@addictivearchery1123
@addictivearchery1123 5 жыл бұрын
Trad Bow Newbie depends on what crown dip your using. You can paint the shaft raw like the stain. If your going to dip it in a thin water paint like I demonstrate you need to seal them first. If you dip them raw it will raise the grain of the wood, when you try and sand then smooth you will remove some of the paint. I recommend you get a wood dowel from the local hardware store to experiment with.

I noticed in one of your videos you said you don't like Crest Lac for crown dipping. What issues did you have? I dipped some test carbon shafts and they look good. I have had problems with some of their cresting paints i.e. yellow,silver. Can I use True North paints over a Crest-Lac crown? Thank you.
@addictivearchery1123
@addictivearchery1123 2 жыл бұрын
Crest Lac is too brittle and will chip over time. It also was prone to fish eye if you are not carful and cause bubbles in the dip tube while mixing. I never tried TN on Crest Lac.

Excuse my 2nd comment..With regards to your swirl design ((Very nice)),, I convinced myself that you made at least one stroke beginning/end and the last shaft it was four . There is no way that you could overlap precisely 4 passes without a shadow affect.. And yet it appears you only made one pass..LOL Help me out please..What is the name of that brown stain ..(Company)? Whether it be your Quakens or my New England white birch , I’m thinking that color/design over a very light brown crown with white feathers 🪶 would be fantastic in elk country..A slight crest design optional.. my opinion only.. Trust me I got your back..Thank you and for your personal fb
