Love the 'Little Bug'. We concentrate on weight, but volume matters too. And the Little Bug packs up with almost zero volume! I like my little butane stove. Screws onto the top of the butane canister, which becomes the base. Prongs fold out to make a pot stand. Click to start! Only 5 ounces (plus fuel bottle). And thank you for demonstrating each stove lighted. So many reviewers just talks about the stove. Seeing it in action, I learn so much more!

Hi Becky, good review on the stove. We mainly cook over open fires, but having a little wood burning stove is a good idea. Even the non wood burning stove does come in handy in certain situations like in a blizzard, or torrential rain storm, or extreme dry weather when forest fires are a risk. So this is good to have a portable stove for occasional use when needed. We just got back from a deep wilderness adventure, recording wolves and other wildlife, and our little camp stove came in handy along the way when we needed a coffee. lol Thanks for sharing. I have a number of different stoves and burners, and I would say my Firebox stove is the best all-around. Mine's stainless, which makes it very durable but heavy. I'm sure the titanium would be better for backpacking, but it's considerably more expensive. I'm enjoying your videos very much.

Good Morning Young Lady .. A very nice overview .. thank you. Yep .. 'Horses for Courses' .. not something to get into a debate over .. endless 😊. Something on the Swiss Volcano Stove .. the Swiss Military M3777 Gel Fuel works well with it. Drill some holes into the Stove Body and with thin tent pegs (or cut to size bicycle spokes) to act as adjustable stove platforms, it becomes even more versatile. Actually Gel Fuel is a great substitute for cooking in 'Fire Sensitive Areas'. Perhaps not the heat output as other fuels, but very easy and safe to use. As 'stoves', I use Metal Screw-Top Jar Lids (3) in various diameters for different applications .. boiling to simmering. Each fits into the other .. takes almost no space. Also, here in Switzerland, Gel Fuel is freely available, far cheaper than Esbit Tabs (holding 'Raclette' and Fondue Evenings, using Gel Fuel Burners, is a Swiss National Sport .. especially now in the colder Months 😊). Ok .. enough of my rambling .. until next time, please keep em coming .. take care ..

Oddly enough, I've never bought a camp stove. Instead I often just make a miniaturized version of a Swedish torch and use the four prongs at the top of the bit of wood as the rest for my cup or pot. After the first use the charcoal is much easier to light the second time. One 6-8 inch bit of log can heat up 2 dozen or more meals or hot drinks from a single piece of wood. Just snuff the center out with a handful of dirt when you're done cooking and toss the log right back into your pack. No cleaning! So, no stove. But I do always have that mini torch in my bag and it doesn't take up any more room than my cup itself.

Very nice to see the range of what's available, and to hear the pros and cons. I think I would take the alcohol stove, and just in case, since it packs so small, the Littlebug stove. Unless, in a pinch you could use just the top part of the Primus on the ground and just feed it twigs and small stuff? A stove is versatile and so necessary for great outdoor cooking and drinks. Thanks for the vid. :Doug

I prefer the wood burning over the alcohol stoves . Can always find twigs to burn . Made my own out of some steel sheeting . Bit heavy for the ultralight hikers but I'm not one to complain about carrying a few extra pounds of weight . I've always worried about knocking over a alcohol stove and starting a fire .

the second stove you can make yourself, I've done that when I was living beside the railroad. I found a SUPER old coffee container in an abandoned house that was half fallen down. I just used my knife and a pair of needle-nose pliers from the same house. Have you seen the wood-burning stove that TA Outdoors uses? It's SUPER pricey, but it's backpack friendly and can also bake bread in it! When I lived in Texas I used a Coleman dual-fuel stove. (The old piston pump kind) And you can run virtually ANY liquid fuel through it including regular gasoline, the Coleman camp fluid (that's just Naptha by the way) high proof alcohol, (a waste if you ask me.) and even 95% rubbing alcohol. If you buy a short attachment, you can use propane or natural gas also. I used that stove for over a year. the biggest problem with it is it's really heavy.

It was a very interesting video about the different stoves, there were several things that made my little grays spin around. In fact, I only have the titanium firebox and an alcohol burner that stands inside when you don't fire with wood you also don't get black fingers when packing up, but there was one of your stoves I liked, the first one you showed , the curved one. Why is Becky not on the North 500 trip with Mr and Mrs Bushwacker, she probably did not get a living room arrest, or did she. 😁

Good Video made: Presentation - setup - demonstration in use. Also such different systems. One of my favorites I have, is the Coleman max Expedition: A foldable two burner gas stove. (But you must change it for another gas canisters. Because the original fits, are no more made = not available.) I use also screw in gas canisters from the garden tool shop. Because cheaper - half price. And has a mix of butane and propane = works also at cold temperatures. It has the same 7/16" UNF screw, as the regular screw gas canisters. But the canisters are smaller, like hairspray. But good to use, like your shown gas stove, with a tube between burner and connect. = so here in germany available. But I repair now an old alcohol stove, with flame regulation wheel. (Made by Dedesca = German Democratic Republic.) And I want to build a wood gas rocket stove, made with tins.

Those are nice stoves for heating up water, but not practical for cooking on with a skillet or pan due to their size. The fuel stove is the one which is nice for parks where you can't start a wood fire and still be able to heat up water.

One of my favorite stove using is a swedish Primus Gas Stove with 3000 Watts. Screwed on a stand with gas tube. and valve for screw in camping gas canisters. (Made in China.) Added with an metal adapter, for the cheapest gas canisters = bajonett. So I have power and fast heating of a gas stove. But my gas canisters are cheaper. I can use cheap gas canisters (screw in) from the garden tool shop. Or the cheapest: Bajonett gas canisters, by using the adapter. All cheaper as the known camping gas canisters (screw in). The cheapest bajonett gas canisters: I buy 28 canisters for 19 pounds total. (free delivery) (Here In Germany via Ebay.) The gas canisters from the garden tools are better at cold weather. Because it works with a mix of butane and propane gas. One canister for 2,40 pounds only. The same offered as a camping gas canister would cost double price.

@asmith78765 жыл бұрын
Denatured alcohol is simply ethanol that has been purposefully contaminated to make it undrinkable, it's a common solvent. Should be available at any hardware store, home center, paint store. None of them burn totally clean, they'll leave a little soot on your pot.
