I use painters' tape to keep the glue from getting on the clamps. It also keeps any stains from getting on the wood. The glue tends to turn the metal clamp bar black.

Great video and I never thought of vinegar as a glue remover. If you put steel wool in vinegar and let it sit for a few days you can use it to 'age' wood especially pressure treated fence boards. I must also say you are very flexible. LOL
@WhatMeikeMakes17 күн бұрын
Hey Tom, yes vinegar is great for a lot of things. I used to always make my own stain with it and steel wool too. I let it sit for over a year and the color was amazing. Also I use black teabags for stain. Vinegar is so versatile.

After doing epoxy glue ups, I've been using wax paper between the wood/plastics/metals and clamps. It's been a huge labor saver. I have a process that will help you with CNC work also, but it's a much longer conversation.
@WhatMeikeMakes17 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing, I’ve used painters tape in the past but I get too lazy after a while and just let the glue get all over. Well now having found an easy way to get the glue off I might just get all messy with it 😜

@@WhatMeikeMakes I meant placing a full width sheet or more depending on the size laying flat across the entire project spanning all the clamps.

Tip: Before applying glue to a plastic tube, it is best to sand it with sandpaper. Sand the first part in 1 direction. The surface now has small grooves in that direction. Sand the other part in the other direction, so that the grooves have a pattern that is perpendicular to each other. Apply the glue to each part in the direction of the grooves. Because the plastic is rougher, the glue adheres better and the cross pattern creates a tight and stronger connection.

a tip for you is cut a strip of waxed paper as long as you need for your project and put a slight fold lengthwise on it so it will stay on the bars. when you glue the parts and place them in the clamps the waxed paper will cover the bars and keep them clean. good tip about the vinegar

Pretty cool, never thought of using vinegar. Honestly my first thought to remove rust was Coca-Cola soda. Lol. I might have to try vinegar on some rusty staging I have. Except I don't have a way of soaking the locks for the support braces. Maybe I can soak a rag and wrap it around. What to you think?

VGvG

Paste was is a great idea for the clamp bars after they are clean. I find that a heat gun and scraper works quickly and no pipe rack standing around cluttering up the shop. If you do the pvc pipes, why not pick up pvc cement from the same store aisle as the pipe? Also, no bowls or tubs around to pour the vinegar into for soaking the hand tools? Why ruin the original vinegar container when it could be poured back into the bottle and saved for other projects?

Great tip, thanks for sharing! I just don’t want to scratch up the clamps like crazy, the chisels have already left some marks and aren’t able to clean out all the grooves along the top where the clamps side pieces slide on. You should give vinegar a try. You might be positively surprised
@HyperSpaceProphet15 күн бұрын
@@WhatMeikeMakes I will give it a try. I can see where it would work well in some instances. I have tools where a brass bush simply can't get into the places it needs to go. Remember though, vinegar is acid, it will eat the plating off of the steel . Use sparingly.
