I LOVE your videos! I played around years ago, back in the “hippie” days, making candles in all sorts of containers that I would find around the house or at thrift stores. Every candle was a hit or miss experience, but it was a whole lot of fun. Now, nearly 50 years later, I’ve decided to indulge in this pastime again, only this time I have KZbin, Amazon, etc., at my disposal, so I’m approaching it in an entirely different way! I enjoy the science of it, the record keeping, and the challenge of dealing with so many variables. I’ve watched many, MANY videos about candle making and I always refer back to yours! The content is always clear and helpful, but I think it’s your personal style that captures and holds my interest. THANK YOU for your help!!

Beautiful kitchen! Thanks for sharing!! Love watching your videos, Wade! I've learned so much. I just started making candles and had no idea how much there was to learn! I am a retired critical are nurse and have a few hobbies. Stained glass making for one. I got interested in candle making as I saw one of my daughters throwing away a large used Tuscany jar. Now I have her save the jars and I clean them up and repour them....lol. I hate wasting a perfectly good jar! I have expanded from there and ordered jars. Mostly making them for friends and family but...who knows. I am 75 and really don't want to start a new business but....maybe I'll teach one of my children what I've learned and they can take it from there. Life is full of changes as you know! I hope you keep doing the videos they help so many and you are so good at it!

@@BlackTieBarn I burned my wood wick candle in my 9oz Amber jar. Using IGI6006 and after two hour burn the candle flame was so high Wade. I’m not sure what’s wrong and my wick was a medium wick from Wooden wick.
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 4 жыл бұрын
@@tawanalm I'm not sure what a medium wick is from woodenwick. Do you know the actual size? .03 1/2 for example. That would help me. But, I dont use woodwicks in a jar that size because it gets super hot. You would want to try a pretty small wick. I only use woodwicks in tumberls without about a 3-3.25" diamater. So, I may not be super helpful on this at the moment. :/

Wow, great idea to keep the candles warm. I live in New England. I my kitchen is cool in the winter so I’ve been bringing my candles to the basement and putting them on the furnace for the day so they can cool down slowly. I bet you could put a heating pad on low under the bottom aluminum pan to warm containers too. Probably easier than preheating the oven all the time.
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 4 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I do not preheat in oven because it's not scalable. It's fine for small batches and for starting out. But not a good long term option.

Hi Wade I make soy wax candles only as a hobby. From what I have read on various sites where people offer tips like yourself, I was under the impression you needed to add your fragrance oil at the lowest temperature possible before pouring in order not to dissipate the fragrance. So I have been adding my fragrance at 125F, stirring it well & then pouring my candle. Is this a big mistake??? I would so appreciate your imput. Really love your site & have learnt so much.

Hi! Your channel is a blast! I just started to learn candle making and use soy wax. I tried different brands but never had such smooth tops like yours. Is that because of the wax mixes you use, inhibitor or smth else? Also, your advice on how to reduce bubbles? I noticed you didn't tap the jar but there are no bubbles at all in the finished product. It seems I do everything I can with soy wax but still have bubbles 😢 Thanks a lot!

I appreciate everything you do to educate us. I want to start my own small candle making business. But I don't have the luxury to buy different waxes, wixs or dyes to test which on which work best with what. What is the best way to make sure I buy ingredients and tools that work well together to avoid wasting money and resources. Much love from south africa ❤️

Where do you buy your UV inhibitor? Do you think there is a difference between suppliers?

I think it'd the sake everywhere assuming it's actual uv inhibitor and a reputable supplier. I've gotten it from candle science, lonestar and Flaming candle.

Just watching this can you list the diameter of your jars and the size wooden wick? Also where did you get your jars from? Thanks for your help.
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 3 жыл бұрын
These particular jars were from candle science at the time... although they aren't always in stock and other places periodically carry them as wel. Jar diameter was basically 3.25-3.5" Wick size depends on what wax I am using and what FO. It can vary drastically based on wax and FO. 6006 is generally a .03 or .04 and widths vary by FO PB 600 is more like .02 and occasionally. 03 All soy will need a booster usually

Hi Wade, I love your videos and watch them constantly. I’ve just branched into using wood wicks and I noticed after it solidified one of my candles moved to 1 side. I’ve asked in the face group why it happened and was told to use a wick holder. I noticed you didn’t use a wick holder. Here in Australia we don’t have wick holders for wood wicks. Can I ask in the absence of a wick holder how do I keep the wood wick from moving to 1 side. I know it was centred and I used a hot glue gun to stick the tab down. I’d greatly appreciate your advice. Thank you.🙏

Wade, I am very new to the World of Candle Making. Get a lot of useful information out of your videos. Love your kitchen. Your kitchen bench top is amazing. I have a question: I purchased a wooden wick candle. It was burning wonderfully. I used it only a couple times. Each time I had it on about 2 hours. The wax definitely melted all the way to the side of the glass. However I cannot keep the wick burning anymore. It takes a long time to get it burning. Then it only keeps going for less than a minute and it goes out. I have majority of the candle un used. Any suggestions how can I fix this problem? Also like to know what causes this? Thanks for all your videos. Love them so much.

HI- can you share your conversion from liquid volume fill in a 9 oz tumbler - assuming you are filling to 8 oz - if you are doing 4 candles you need 24.3 oz wax to do 32 oz of liquid wax fill? are you accommodating for fragrance?
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 3 жыл бұрын
hi Holly. sorry for late reply. Among so many comments across all platforms, occasionally a couple are missed at first. But... I dont concern myself with converting from liquid to weight. I just start by filling a jar (to whatever fill level I want) and finding the net weight (difference between that filled jar and an empty jar. So, for example the jars you mentioned above are really about 10.5oz jars (by volume). But my fill by weight is about 9oz. Let's assume a 9% fragrance load. So 4 candles would look like this: 9 x 4 = 36 total oz 36 / 1.09 = ~33oz (this is the wax amount) 36 - 33 = 3oz ( this is the FO amount) *The 1.09 is the division of the FO percentrage. If you wanted to use 8% then it would be divided by 1.08 Or, if 10% it would be divided by 1.10

@@sonicamy4518 I do not continue to add heat. Once I remove it at the proper heat, I just work until its ready to pour. But no, I do not continued to supply more heat. With these waxes, I heat to 195ish, add UV and Dye, add FO around 180-185. Pour around 165-170
