Cub Cadet Mini-Dozer Widens the Lane

Built from a pair of 1972 Cub Cadet garden tractors, this hefty little dozer is put to work on the lane, contouring the edges of the roadbed to improve drainage. The uphill bank has encroached on the lane and is cut back to widen the lane.

This one is dated 1942. I believe it was a Navy shipyard lathe.

That's a brilliant solution, driving completely different sprockets. It allows full driving power at all times, unlike the braked diff solution of historic machines. I love the size. It's extremely useful, getting real work done at a rate FAR faster than you could do it by hand, but not requiring even a small "full size" dozer, and not the borderline-silly smaller Struck Kit models.

Just my opinion, I've operated a motor grader, and believe you could have done the same job, as good if not better than as, you've done with the dozer. They are both awesome machines. I would like to see some videos of the grader at work, lol, that's for sure. You've done a great job on building them. Thanks for sharing.

Great looking & working dozer. Them 14hp Kohler engines are tuff engines. That's what the lawnmower pullers like to use. The biggest thing wrong with it is that it's not mine!!! I have always wanted to put tracks on a sears SS-15 . I've have a SS-15 with a kwikway loader [ 1972] .I also have a SS-14 with 3 blades ! It has 1 on the front,one in the middle & one on the back!! I've others but poor heath & old age seems to get in the way now! 👍🚜🚜

I would have windrowed some of the stone back into the road and then cut a little deeper on your edges. Take the wind rowed gravel and add to the crown or to the lows.

Most of that was dirt from the hillside that had encroached on the lane. I came back with the loader and moved it off the road. More work still to be done, making the ditch deeper. Stay tuned!

Hi Frank, when reversing, you need to lift the blade off the ground to save wear on the cutting edge and not pull the stuff back over the road

You need to make the hand turning controls into foot controls so you can have full control of the blade during movement. That would make that dozer a hole new machine to operate and you could actually do some pretty nice work with it then.

i got a allis chamlers hd11 from 1964 but id much rather have that small ting because all u do with the allis is work on it i speent my whole past weekend working on it just for it to work for 3 hours wanna trade lmao even tho it got 110hp and yours 14 yours seem to be working better

Sweet machines! So how much guesstimated $s will you save Vs hiring the entire ditching job done? Same question for the entire roadwork you have done with your built machines? Your fun factor negates the cost of shop tools and machines IMO so that should simplify the guesstimations if you choose to answer.

KZbin ad revenue has paid for part of the tools and machines, and I wouldn't have a channel without that stuff, so maybe hiring would be more expensive? A lot less work, for sure, but a lot less fun, too.

Yes. A couple specialized tasks, like internal keyways or splines. It's a lot of fun to use. I guess I need to make a video using it sometime.

You're probably right. On the other hand, if you look closely, you'll notice that it's actually a Cat 1 3 pt. hitch arrangement. So I could put other implements on it. The angle cylinder has quick disconnects so the whole blade assembly comes off with three pins. And it has the hydraulic top link.

Your grading in the wrong direction. Grade from the ditch into the middle and then level out the middle.

I understand but I was trying not to put so much sod and dirt on the road bed. I came back with my FEL and moved that stuff off to the downhill side. Will come back with the grader and do exactly has you've suggested, but much less dirt will be involved.

Impressive engineering ...hard to choose which to like best ...the mini dozer versus the mini grader 👏👏👏👏👏, just curios to know about which took longer to build . But then that really does not matter , both are priceless machines , engineered better than any full of compromises types that if made by means of mass production would have to be in order to be profitable for any manufacturer, and practically unaffordable for most people who could use them on their property. Ingenuity at its best👏👏👏👏👏

The grader took half or 1/3 the time to build compared to the dozer. The grader didn't have all the transmission work that the dozer required for the drive system. Plus, I didn't spend half my time moving cameras around and another 10 hours/week editing video.
