A wooden Spatula made with only a Spokeshave, Chisel, and Cardscraper. This spatula was made from spalted Hard Maple. this Spatula would make a great beginners project. a woodworking project that could be done in an afternoon. with just a few basic tools this can be done in a couple hour.

To me this really looks like it would be more enjoyable as a hatchet and knife, green woodworking project. As for basically make the handle out of riven wood I approve thoroughly of it.

You seem to bring out a video on a subject that Paul sellers has just put on woodworking masterclass . I wonder how this happens. But Paul is a proper craftsman sometimes you irritated me as you can be very rough with your woodworking. Slow down go on some properties woodwork courses it will help you no end.

I am not up to date with what Paul is doing in the master class. sorry. I may seam rough but my goal is not craftsmanship but the fun of the shop. Paul and I are two sides of the same coin. thanks for the criticism. I do admire that.

Hey ! This is a BRILLIANT design for a spatula ! You've obviously thought about the design of the head a good deal ! A good working angle. the ideal thickness, flat to make turning and stirring the food so simple, and an ergonomically shaped handle ! I should think that serving the cooked food from the pan to the plate is also fairly easy with this spatula ! Also the tips that you gave us for its construction were so useful ! I'm going to try making one of these ! My daughter is a cook, so if I make a good version, maybe she'll cook me something ? The plot thickens ! So all round, this project of yours is a GREAT idea ! PS Is that an "Instructables" T-shirt ? Very trendy !

I learn woodworking from YT most of the time and from Lost Art Press books too. Although techniques and tools in America mostly came from Europe (where I live), there are two problems I find difficult to overcome. You may try to address at least one of them to help the international audience. Tool names. Most tools have their names in my mother tongue, but in some cases it takes hours to find what it is (to buy them in local shops). This is something everyone need to figure out for themselves. The other problem is wood. Unlike tools this is something, that is and should be local. Please check where your audience comes from (me, Eastern Europe) and when you talk about wood you use for a certain project, tell about alternatives for different parts of the world. People new to woodworking don't know which properties of a particular species of wood may be important for each project. In my whereabouts pine (pinus sylvestris) is by far the most popular and the cheapest wood. So, for example, for me it is important to know: how bad it is to use pine for this? (-; (In case of spatula and other objects meant to come in contact with food I know conifers are a bad choice in general, but beech is OK).

Tool names have always been a mess. They change from place to place all over the world and everyone has different names of the same tool. Even in America the same tool might have five different names depending on where you live in the country. It's one of those things that's almost impossible to address. Because there are just so many they cannot all be covered. As to wood types I generally tell people do not worry about what type of wood they use rarely does it really matter that much. Use whatever you can have on hand. once you understand the basics of the difference between softwood and hardwood that really isn't that much more to it. But that being said it might make an interesting video to play through.

Another great build. I enjoy these videos making something with minimal tools. Sure hope you do more of them. I prefer my eggs over hard and I ALWAYS cook them in cast iron. It adds flavor. BTW, nice Pirates of the Caribbean reference at 2:40.

Let's say one is allergic to boiled linseed oil. Is there an alternative? Mineral oil? Olive Oil? Walnut Oil? What food safe finish would do the same thing a linseed oil.

any of those you listed will work fine. There is also a finish called salid bowl Finish that I have used a few times.
