You could add a register mark on one side of the box and the corresponding edge of the top so you know how it goes on . It could be carved, a sticker, a dot, a notch, whatever. I generally have to do this after I fumble around enough even on rectangular boxes...

I was thinking the same.. and doesnt have to be a boring line or dot on one side... could be a nice opportunity to do some carving..and helps you with the lid problem in the process 👍

I think you should make the top of the box a mini chinese checkers board and paint bbs to use as marbles… then of course you would need to make a smaller box for the bbs… lololol

Question on gluing with epoxy. Does any overspill on faces affect the finish? (Same as glue affecting stain & varnish) Does epoxy as glue take long time to cure?

Yes it will affect the finish but not quite to the same degree as it doesn't absorb into the wood quite as far. So usually I end up scraping off anything that's on top and it works perfectly fine. Has to curing time that depends on the epoxy. It can be anywhere from a minute to 48 hours or longer. Usually the ones I'm using are around a 6-hour cure time.

When I need to make a 6 sided box i use my miter box, just swing the arm to the '6' setting and cut it.

I thought of using the miter box but it usually find it to be far more work to get out and get up and going. It's usually the only time I would use it for cutting a lot of things that aren't just 45.
