How long did the wood need to cool the round and how long did you leave the round from this video until you printed?

I'd estimate: fifteen minutes between torching and brushing. Thirty minutes between brushing and shellacking, and an hour after that printing.

what ink do you recommend and should i use oil based or water based/ water soluble? there's so many options

I would recommend oil based for the open drying time. If you use water based consider a bit of retarder or glycerin to sure the drying time.

Why do you use shellac?

Thanks so much for the comment. Shellac or some kind of similar sealer will prevent the wood from sucking in all your ink. ideally it will make the ink sit on top of the tree rings instead of getting sucked down into them.
