Who find this ironic? The tolerance on that jig is maybe + or - 1/4 inch (ha,ha) and yet the ball is almost perfect! Very nice work!

There is all around south America (and even hearing in some parts of Europe) this balls that are made perfect from stone and in huge sizes (I saw 6-7 ft tall). No one knows for sure who and why they did them (and how). I Guess this may have been a way how they did it.

The Moraki boulders near Dunedin in New Zealand are results of differences in volcanic material. When the rock was molten some harder rock globbed together suspended in other molten rock , allowing them to form perfect spheres. After cooling, the softer surrounding rock washed away by the sea , leaving the harder spheres on the beach. They are up to a meter and a half in diameter. They look a lot like huge dinosaur eggs :)

you probably could if you had one. Plus you would have to set up your drill, and you would not have as much control over it, and a hole saw is too aggressive.

you could also have someone else do it for you. for example kids in India. why should we use our hands at all? it's not like the other animals are doing it. the point is to figure out how stuff works, and reinvent. there are so many things we forgot how to do. and it's satisfying if you can make the tool yourself.
